TC-Con 2005 - Official Hotel Booking Information

EDIT: Please note! Cutoff date for the hotel reservations is now MAY 16th! If you have not booked a room yet at the NYNY, please make sure you do so ASAP!

OK guys, all the paperwork has been signed and you can begin booking rooms at the NYNY for TC-Con 2005!

The telephone number for reservations is 1-800-852-5683. When you call, ask for group code SCG268. The reservations desk should automatically apply the room discount for you, but PLEASE make sure you confirm with them that you're being charged appropriately.

The NYNY booking website is now set up for our online bookings! Click on this link and you can begin making reservations immediately. Please let me know right away if you have any problems booking.

The standard rooms at the New York New York are the Park Avenue rooms. These boast from 300 - 400 square feet, one king or two queen beds, internet connections in every room (fee is $10 a day), and some other niceties like marble countertops in the bathroom and flat screen TVs. These rooms run for $95 a night, from the nights of Sunday June 12th through Thursday June 16th. If you'd like to come in on the Friday/Saturday night beforehand, or stay until the Friday/Saturday night after the convention, the room rate for the Park Avenue is $169 per night for those nights.

For those of you wanting a little more space, you can try out the Marquis or Player's Suite rooms. Both of these offer more space (600 - 800 square feet, depending on the room), Jacuzzis, and other various amenities in addition to the features of the Park Avenue. These rooms run for $169 a night, from the nights of Sunday June 12th through Thursday June 16th. If you'd like to come in on the Friday/Saturday night beforehand, or stay until the Friday/Saturday night after the convention, the room rate for the either room would be $239 per night for those nights.

Please remember that your room deposit, and room costs, are entirely separate from your TC-Con deposit for the Convention Event.

All reservations require a major credit card. You may need to put down a deposit of one night's room rate (plus tax) when you make your reservation, and the remainder of the charges are billed to you when you checkout. Any room canceled prior to 48 hours before your arrival date will have the deposit costs for the room refunded in full. If you cancel within the 48 hours prior to your arrival date, the hotel charges you one night's room rate and tax.

PLEASE make sure you book early.. After May 11th, rooms can be booked based on availability, but if the hotel books quickly after that, you may have problems getting a room. If you can't book until mid/late May, please let me know so I can have a room tagged for you.

The New York New York hotel also offers airport check-in at McCarran Airport now. Airport Check-in is available from 9a - 11p daily, and it is located in the baggage claim area, between the C and D gates at the airport. You can pick up your room keys there. For a nominal fee, you can also have them shuttle you, and/or your bags, to the hotel. (The hours for baggage-only transfers can vary)

Check-in time at the hotel is 3:00PM, and checkout time is 11:00AM. For those of you arriving early on the day of your check-in, the NYNY will do everything possible to accomodate your early arrival if they have a room available. For those of you arriving late on your check-in day (as in, after midnight), please make sure to let the hotel's reservation center know (either when making the reservation, or after the fact) so they can hold your room for you.

That about does it. Please let me know if you have any questions. Likewise, if you have ANY problems with making a reservation, let me know right away and I'll make sure it gets taken care of.

Please note again that you do not need to stay at NYNY in order to attend the main convention. Most people who attended in 2004 agreed that half the fun was staying at the same hotel though as it allowed for many impromptu gatherings and side events, and it was extremely convenient to get to/from the main convention event.

I'm in. Took a while because the CR spoke with a very heavy Chinese accent.

Park Avenue aren't actually the standard rooms, Skyline are, and I believe is what we were in last year. Well except me, in my $1000 suite

Any idea why they put you in Park Ave?

Our group sales contact says that a large portion of the old Skyline rooms were upgraded to Park Avenue layouts/amenities in the Fall of '04, and that they're lowering the number of Skyline rooms in the hotel by a very large amount. Didn't get any numbers, but they wouldn't even quote us on Skyline rooms, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're planning to get rid of them altogether.

Cool, thanks for all the hard work. Now I have to time my arrival so I can get a free suite again.

Word on the web site. Last year I made my reservation way early (like October), and in May when I checked, they didn't have my reservation. Their web site isn't connected with their reservation system, so be sure to verify the information over the phone...

What is required to hold the room? How much would I need to put down in advance?

I was finding some great rates on americawestvacations.com but I believe those were for the skyline rooms. Since this is a higher level room, it would probably be worthwhile to book through NYNY. =)

If you can find a plane + hotel package, it might be cheaper than doing each individually.

i think NYNY charges your credit card for 1 night when you make a reservation.

yeah, that's where I'm running into the problem. I found an air/hotel package for $573.40 including taxes for June 12-17. But I have to pay for the whole thing in advance. =P

*smile*

And FWIW, just about everyone last year noticed that while the NYNY took down credit card information for the deposit, they didn't actually charge the deposit fee. So, it's possible (though not guranteed) they may do that again this year. That's the prerogative of the reservations department, though...

My CR was pretty clear that they were going to charge the one night's stay immediately. So that's $95 plus tax.

During TC-Con 04 many of the rooms on my floor were being gutted and refurbed. As of June 04 you could book a Skyline or Park Avenue, with the newer Park Avenue being more expensive, of course. I would doubt that they have many Skylines left now, and that number may be zero by June 05.

EDIT: You can still book a Skyline for June 05. But not with our group rate.

OK, the initial post has now been updated with the URL for online bookings! Here's the link in case you don't want to scroll up to the top.

Sorry for the delay, gang. NYNY is rolling out a new online booking system, and we're the first group to get to use it. Once again, us TiVo folk are pioneers.

If any problems come up, please let me know!

No. If you're booking online, you can choose the 'Queen' option for the Park Avenue rooms and that should get you two beds.

Also, if you book by phone, just make sure they note on your reservation that you want two beds, and they should be able to accomodate you.

I just booked my room online... couldn't have been easier. Even had a TiVo icon there! Their new booking system is very slick and simple. I only had a choice between the Park Avenue and the Players Suite for the nights I was requesting (nights of June 12-16). If you haven't booked your room yet, I would recommend the online system. I doubt we'll have lost online reservations like last year.

It did advise me that I would be immediately paying a deposit of one night's fee, and explained how I could get it back.

Those of you that were there in '04 and did not stay at NYNY... did you feel "left out"? I know that there are the chance meetings and so forth - since I haven't met anyone (and don't have the following that some posters do), I wonder if I'll miss "much".
