Lost 1/19/2005 *spoilers*

I saw we had two threads for the last episode, which seemed weird. I'm starting two now... one for this week's show, and one for the next episode. I propose that discussions of the previews at the end of this episode be discussed in a thread for the next episode. The other thread can be found here: Lost 2/2/2004 *spoilers*

I believe this will keep the pro-preview and anti-preview camps happy. PM me if you have any comments, because I probably won't be back to this thread until Friday.

Did anyone else think that bear looked a bit too animated. Not the face, but when you saw it from behind.

My guess is Loche gave Walt and his dad a vision, and I really thought that bear was going to eat his dad.

Well, Claire is back; presumably without the baby. Whey they didn't just kill her I don't know.

Walt is magic (as was speculated).

Locke continues to be an enigma. If there are two sides (White and Black) he must be carefully choosing which to follow at the opportune time. His protege Boone is turning to the darkside though.

Final scene: Locke and Boone are wandering in the jungle - Locke is blowing on a dog whistle (the kind that is silent to humans); they hear a rustling in the bushes, start calling for Vincent. Claire appears, dirty and disheveled, but no longer pregnant.

Thank you. I had tivo set to record something else at 9 and wanted to catch the beginning of West Wing. What was in the book that was being read at the campfire?

What kind of magic does Walt have?

Did he kill his mom? Did he cause the crash?

He didn't conjure the bear; Rousseau was familiar with it.

Does he attract animals? That bird came to him, the bear came to him, his dog... ran away... so... I don't know.

Walt's magic is that thinks that he thinks about and wishes to happen, happens.

No, he didn't kill his mom.

Yes, he did conjure the bear, both times, I think. Was Rousseau familiar with a polar bear? Or just the monsters...

Rousseau was familiar with the bear. Actually she said bears. She grabbed her gun when she and Sayid heard a noise and said, "It's probably just one of the bears." Or something like that.

We don't know if he killed his mom or not. He doesn't have any control over his powers (whatever they are).

Of course the polar bear did appear after he read that comic book -- both times. The bird came while he was reading about birds. So, it's a pretty good guess that he can summon animals by reading about them. Other than that what do we know? Not much.

Claire wrote about a recurring dream about the black rock. She said she tried to get away from it but it wouldn't let her.

He wished the rain away too.

And I think he wished the knife to hit the tree.

First - let's not start threads about episodes weeks away. That's just dumb. Second - the previous for next week were for a rerun.

That said - wow, great episode (as they all are). Best. Ending. Ever. OK, maybe not EVER. But still good.

I think now I'm finally on the "it's mystical, not all real-world-based" camp. I don't think Walt can create things from nothing... I think he can summon things sorta. That would explain why the French Lady knew the bears. Walt doesn't creaate them, just gets them to come.

'Course then you have to think it's a mighty big coincidence that he had a comic book with polar bears on a TROPICAL island that just happened to have polar bears...

I watched Carnivale and then Lost... so I'm really confused today

Well, if sunburnt penguins show up on the next new episode, we'll know Walt has summoning powers for sure.

Forgot about the rain. Coincidence? Red herring?

He "saw" the knife hit the tree before doing it -- nothing magical there. Every athlete does the same thing.

He was mad at his mom for ignoring her. She got sick. Died.

He was pissed at having to study Australian birds. The nearest one died.

Not enough information to draw conclusions here. All we know is Walt is "special" and around him "bad things happen."

Was it "bad things" or "strange things"? -- I can't recall...

Wow! what a great ending, best one I think there has been!

What do ya'll think the "black rock" is? I personally am beginning to believe it may be a ritual type place which would explain taking Claire for her baby and who Ethan is, possibly what Locke means by "sides". I guess we'll find out soon enough.

What's up with all these polar bears? and does anyone find it odd that the comic book shown repeatedly has had a polar bear in it? I guess it has something to do w/ Walt's "powers".

Pretty decent episode w/ a great ending!

If three Halliwell sisters from San Francisco show up, we'll know what Walt is.

Once again, Locke facilitates a resolution or healing for a fellow castaway...
Charlie and his drug habit, Boone and his desire for his "sister," Michael and Walt. He's turning into a real Dr. Phil.

Ok - who was it that said last week that they thought everything revolved around Walt? The Bear, the rain, and perhaps the crash? Step forward and take credit - good call.

Now - the question is - how much of this is Walts doing.

I really think someone or something has hand 'picked' these people to fight some sort of battle. Each person brings their own talent. Just waiting for Hawkins to show up

Okay, so if whatever Walt "thinks or wishes" happens, then why can't he just wish for a plane to come rescue them, or wish for a raft, something of the sort? Just doesn't seem something that would go with the show, and seems kind of cheesy.

A lot like that movie Sphere.

So it kind of rules out that the island has a part in Walt's wishes coming true. I mean it might assist him but he caused that bird to appear and crash into the house in Australia.

Well, I can't take credit for saying everything revolves around Walt, but tonight's episode supports my theory. I think Walt caused the plane crash. Since his thoughts often (not always) come true, I think on the plane he was wishing he'd never get to NYC.

Kudos to Michael for putting Walt first. Brian's a first class a-hole, but Michael covered for him to spare Walt's feelings. Very brave to take on the role as "bad guy" so the poor boy didn't already feel more abandonned that he already must have with his mom gone.
