Recording from VHS to DVD

I have a Series 2 TiVo and am looking to buy the DVD-Recorder one. Does it have the capability to not only burn shows from TiVo, but also from a VCR (VHS tape). I think a regular DVD Recorder can, but am not sure about the TiVo Progressive Scan ones. Thanks!

Yes, under Pick PRograms To Record is an options to "Record from Camcorder or VCR". There are RCA inputs in the front, and a FireWire port in the front also.

You select where you are recording from, and even give the recording a name, and the quality of the recording (Best quality can get about 51 minutes), and it will pause for you to get the video cued up, For the RCA cables, it'll even give you a 15 second countdown.

I hope to figure everything out that you mentioned! Sounds complicated! But, thank you for the information ... I don't want to buy another one without making sure it has this capability.

Question VHS / DVD Combo Units

I have a DirecTv with TiVo using a Hughes HDVR2 and wanted to burn some of my saved programs to DVD. I also have VHS tapes that I would like to make a DVD copy. Any thought on these combo units.

I have a DRT-800 and have burned dvd's from both vhs and from my older TiVo by way of the RCA jacks on the front of the machine with good results.

Toshiba TX Works

I just purchased the Toshiba TX60 and DVR'd a VHS tape.

It is as easy as noted above.

I just need to burn a DVD now and don't anticipate any problems.

Just remember that Tivo will honor any copy protection mechanisms on the tape. Thus if the tape is protected with, for example, Macrovision encoding then Tivo will refuse to burn a DVD of the material. You can copy it onto the disk because that's basically just an alternative viewing medium.

If the VHS tapes are personal recordings made on your own or someone else's VCR, you shouldn't have any problems writing them to DVD.
