What will Dr Who be Called?

We're on holiday when the new Dr who stars and half way around the world in China where, even is I could get my Tivo running on the web (the router stops it and I've never worked out why really), chances are the authorities there would have closed down all the cyber cafs anyway...

Anyway to the point of my ramble, anyone get reliable suggestions on what the new Dr Who will be called? I could set an autowishlist but who and doctor (or Dr) are pretty generic and I'd end up with a tivo full of junk TV and the chance it records it on the saturday and then overwrites it. Or the BBC or Tribune decide to call it "return of the timelord" and I miss it completely. From the BBC's web site I know the time it's on and I think the first ep is called Rose.

It's on the 26th at 7PM, but if I set a manual recording will it take priority over any season pass, and in any case how long is the 1st ep, ( is it a regular 30 mins, 1 hour or a pilot special of 2 hours?)

Anyone "in the know"? I know there is the video on the p2p networks but a, I'#d tather watch it on the TV not a PC and from what I read that may or may not be a Rough Cut and / or the BBC might run 2 or 3 ep's together to make a pilot to re introduce it..

And I'd hate to miss the daleks get up stairs...

For the record, it's 13 episodes @ 45mins each. I'm guessing they'll call it "Doctor Who", but don't hold me to it

The existing title is 'Doctor Who' - and this is a contination. It will not help if the BBC list it as Dr Who.

My son has a whishlist for 'Doctor Who' and 'Dr Who' - it doesn't pick up much junk and most can bew removed immeditatly.

Where and when has it been publicised?

Coo. Completely passed me by. No-one I know has mentioned it, either, so I guess I'm not alone.

anyone here wonder if the "leak" is PR? Let's face it, most of the people who downloaded it will still watch the show on TV anway. And it's certainly got it lots of free press.

No - the launch has had enough free press without a leak. In anycase, the video was withdrawn before many had chance to see it.

I always assumed that once a file appeared on BitTorrent, it was fairly impossible to withdraw.

It wasn't originally there - it was somewhere else.

In anycase - I don't think it was a BBC leak - I understand it was a pirated copy from Canada.

My TiVo got BBC1 listings for the 26th but I'm no wiser. They have "Rubgy Union" scheduled between 5:45 and 7:45!

The full article linked to here in a previous thread in the TiVo UK forum claims:
Quote:
Elsewhere in cyberspace, other fans have successfully campaigned for the episode to be removed from download services. UKNova, which provides downloads of popular shows, said that it had taken the episode down because "it is not in the overall interests of this site to distribute a copy of such a long-awaited and high-profile show before it is aired".

While indeed UKNova is a significant tracker for UK television torrents, as you say, if you know how to track in the forest, you should be able to hunt down your quarry,

As I implied in the post linked to, I think that it is a conspiracy theory too far to imagine there was a PR "leak".

Why would a major broadcaster give publicity to the concept of downloading television torrents in a way that could give people encouragement to try it for he first time?

Why, of all shows being relaunched, would Doctor Who need such exceptional publicity to give to a heads up and a buzz?

When you guys say this has been "on the news", do you mean the ordinary, mainstream news (like Radio 4), or only on specialist "cult tv and video-heads" news? I have yet to meet anyone in the real world who has any idea a new Dr Who is starting (but most I tell seem to be quite pleased at the news).

IIRC I heard it on Radio 1 and BBC1 10pm news. Although I could be wrong about the 10pm news....

It has been on national news at 6pm and 10pm - loads of radio stuff. Chris Moyles played the new theme tune first (I think) last week.

GMTV had a special last Friday.

It is even on the current cover of the Radio Times - and it isn't even in the listings for the current edition.

Oh, I've heard it mentioned on Radio 4 - iirc on both The Today program and P.M.

The leak was on the BBC News website which, of course, means that it's already gone around the world.

I don't think BBC News website leaked the entire episode 1.

BBC will only release their full listings for week-beginning 26th March on 17th March - so you won't see them on TiVo until next weekend.

Newsnight, the BBC One Six O'Clock News (not sure about the One and Ten), BBC Three's Seven O'Clock News, BBC One's This Week and News 24 have all covered the new Dr Who series (and it's leaking thereof) this week... And in great depth.

The current "best guess" is that the BitTorrent leak came from a viewing copy of a rough-cut sent to a co-production partner (and the current best bet is that this was aimed at CBC in Canada)

I haven't downloaded it myself (HONEST - I suspect my employers would take a dim view, and believe it or not by first paying job as an adult was working on Dr Who...) but it wasn't difficult to find it...

Yep - presumably Tivo is "best guessing" until then?

Back to the original question: setup a manual recording for 7pm - 8pm on BBC1 on the 26th, this will take precedence over any season passes and gives you 15 minutes padding.
