Other reports have said he didn't want to be tied down to a AI exclusive contract. I like Nikko better anyway...

Thank god, I couldn't stand that Fez looking fool. Nikko I think still has the best chance to take it. Him or Bo. I was thinking about not watching it when I saw last week that Nikko was out. Believe me, he will be back next week too...America wont let him go again

The Fez looking fool? Last time I checked, Wilmer Valderrama was considered a teen idol and was raking in the bucks hand over fist. I can't tell you a thing about the guy, or what else he's done other than "That 70's Show", but I do know that looking like a "Fez fool" has resulted in many large paydays.

I'm sorry to see the much more talented (IMHO) and versatile Vasquez go and have the once-already-departed Smith take his place. If by some miracle he wins this thing, he'll be known as the "Idol with the asterisk"....or better yet, "guy who "was actually eliminated the first go 'round"

Like him or not, Vasquez at least brought a polish and a flair to AI that few, if any of the other contestants could match (with a possible exception being Nadia Turner) Now, with Mario gone, a very bland and boring group of contestants becomes even moreso....

I am in love with Mario Vazquez. This is the worst thing that could ever happen!

I'm going to cry myself to sleep now!

Wasn't Clay eliminated, and then brought back during the "Second Chances" episode? Yeah, it's a different situation, but similar.

Clay won the Wild Card round. George Huff was brought back last year after being cut in Hollywood.

Mario wasn't going to win anyway. Just another Justin Guarini.

I don't think that cmparison is a good one. While I didn't see the 1st season, I heard Justin from his appearances on the 2nd season. He was never in tune. He couldn't sing. While Mario, who wasn't one of my favorites, could sing.

Actually, it was a great comparison. In the first season, Justin really was one of the best singers in the bunch (at least top 4 or 5). However, I think the "cheese factor" was just a little too high, which ultimately led to his demise. I think the exact same thing would have happened with Mario...

What is wrong with these people? This is the second person this season to withdraw after surviving an elimination.

Even is Mario got offered some sort of deal that he couldn't sign while he was still competing on the show, why would quitting be the best option? If some company wants him, wouldn't he be a more valuable commodity after getting further in the contest? And from his perspective, isn't he selling himself short by walking away?

There must be a lot of AI participants who already got cut who must be really pissed at him, not to mention the producers. Mario is like Osten from Survivor.

TWOPers are speculating that he's resigning b/c he's gay. Not that prevented previous contestants.

He sang well in the 1st season? Wow.. what happened? He couldn't hit one not in his appearances on the 2nd season.

That just doesn't make any sense, though. I doubt that most of the AI audience would care if he is gay, and there are plenty of gay entertainers out there already.

Why would that even matter in something like this anyway..

Gotta love the speculation.

I heard a "gay porn" rumor this morning or at least adult photos may surface.

Well, he said he was resigning for personal reasons about himself.

He later said that he is healthy and fine, and eveyrone in his family is healthy and fine.

So... speculation runs rampant.

But, the auidence shouldn't and doesn't care.

Reasons:

a)He either is about to be arrested, or some scandal is about to be exposed.

b)He got another offer and decided he didn't like the restrictive terms of the Idol contract.

c) He truly does have some personal, family problems that will prevent him from working for the next 12 weeks.

He wasn't going to win anyway, but he's a heck of a lot better than boring, personality-less Malcolm Nikko, IMO.

I am happy Nikko is back in. His style and song choices were great IMO.

Heard an interview with Nigel Lithgoe (executive producer) this morning (Good Morning LA - Fox11) and I think the AI contract is not the case. They ALL sign the same contract when they come to Hollywood (according to him), not just the winner. The winner is presented with a recording contract as part of the prize pool, but that doesn't preclude them from recording with the runners up (Tamayra Grey, for instance). It's all part of the contest rules, AI already 'owns' them when they make the cut to the final 12 (or 24), for at least some period of time. So if he is leaving to pursue a different contract, I am sure AI will prevent that.
I hate to say it, but I think the rumor-mongers are probably more correct here. There is 'something' that would have come out (and still may).

I thought Mario was one of the best.

Justin Guarini stunk. He had one good week in the first season.

Got this from CNN.com:

Vazquez is not the first to leave "Idol" unexpectedly, though few have done so willingly. Last year, George Huff was called back to Los Angeles when contestant Donnie Williams was cited for DUI. And in 2003, three contestants were dropped by Fox, two for failing to disclose arrest records and another for posing on an adult-oriented Web site.

It's almost always a "character" issue.....
