It was too dark to take pics without a flash and all we had were camera phones and whatever device Foffer had.

I have my camera at the hotel. this may sound dumb, but I don't know how to transfer the pics to my laptop using XP and no memory card reader. I have the cable for the camera, but not the software from the cable.

Just plug the camera into the laptop. XP will recognize it. Worst case scenario, download the drivers from the camera web site. I thought you knew how to use a computer, smeek? Sheesh!

I've already tried that.. Didn't work.. with my previous laptop and
Windows 2000, I used a PC Card reader for my CF card. But I don't have that with me now.

Go to your camera web site, download the 2000 drivers. Or I can hold you hand thru it when I get there tomorrow.

If the manufacturer did the firmware correctly, 2000/XP should just see it as another USB storage device. No need to install drivers.

My Canon never appears as a simple USB device on any computer (Mac or PC).

I'm really trying to avoid installing extra crap on this laptop. I wan't it to work WITHOUT needing to do that. I was stupid for forgetting the PC Card reader. If I had that, it would be a slam dunk.

You can always install the extra crap now, then uninstall it after the weekend...

Because the wonderful software manufacturers don't always "uninstall" everything that they install. Plus, they put a bunch of extra garbage and crap all over the place that is never necessary.

Fine, I'll do it myself. This one's for you, Mav! And I'm not even in SoCal yet! I just got done with my daily bike ride and about to start laundry, organizing, and packing for tomorrow.
