Guide for 6.2 to hacked 6.2???

Is anyone going to make a step by step guide to update a non hacked 6.2 to a HMO 6.2?

I know it would be nice for me to use and probably others.

Just a thought.

I would be interested in this also.
The guides I have seen start from an already hacked machine.

edited because my modified instructions have become a mini guide and I'd rather just write one myself.
I'll do that at some point this week and post it here.

I would, but you are on the otherside of the country. Infact I think you were the guy that pointed me in the right direction when it came to 4.0.

It wants a login...

Oh but if you cancel it lets you view it. You may want to fix that...

at this point the only way for wireless to work is slicing from 4.0 to 6.2
here is the guide in html format

Yeah I just read that... I hadn't been keeping up on the thread for it the last few days. Oh well maybe by the time I get 6.2 on my last DTivo it'll be "worked out"...

nice guide, but what if you don't have cable? All I have is dialup at home. Also, does this give you access to copy the files off onto your pc?

It's not stated, but IIRC when I upgraded my HDD I needed a FAT32 formatted HDD as the master and hooked up the TiVo drive as the slave - is it the same for this?

Ummmmm... Why?

Does 6.2 not include modules that 4.x does? Can those "missing parts" be pulled from 4.x install disc and dropped into 6.2...

Or am I really going to have to go from 4.x-6.2? I see some broken installs and gratuitous swearing in my future.

Anyone have success with a wireless bridge? Isn't that just a matter of spending more money on hardware? I am no longer opposed to throwing money at it

EDIT: One more question...
Either way i do it (6.2 straight up or 4.0->6.2) I am going to do the hack installs after I have taken it to a larger drive... I do not need to preserve recordings and don't mind redoing season passes... do I have to have a FAT32 partition drive installed or can I just work from the CDs and blank drive?
/EDIT

There is a way to add wireless to 6.2 without the stop at 4.x, unless you need WEP. Check out the other forum for more. You do need a hacked box with either serial or network access.

Other question, you can put everything on a CD if you choose. I personally have a small FAT32 drive that I have all my hacks/tools/backups on. I find it much easier than making a lot of CD coasters.

Dang. I am using WEP on my network...

When you make the 4.x->6.2 move, do you have the screens for setting up networking?

I have read that you have to add networking to the .author (IIRC) file but have no access through the GUI to change it. Is the GUI access still enabled when making the slice upgrade?

Because the networking bits that let you Search for and CONFIGURE a wireless connection are not included in 6.2

No
which is why leaving dhcp enabled for the tivo is the easiest way to get things done.

You don't need internet access at all except to obtain the files needed for hacking.
HMO is for a closed in home network.
Broadband is nice for tivoweb though. You can log on to your tivo from any web browser and schedule recordings and what not.

The title of this thread states virgin 6.2 to hacked 6.2. However, from what I read (a lot) these instructions (at least some steps) seem to be for someone going from 4.1 to 6.2. Also, there are several places that indicate netfilter should not be disabled but another technique should be used. I have 6.2 on all HDVR2s now but after spending a couple of weeks reading, I will wait for a PTVupgrade CD.... Not to understate the significant contributions by some people, that is muchly appreciated. I just think it's too "touch and go" for now since there are so many conflicting instructions. I was hoping to get it to work and post my steps as well but it seems not everyone should follow the same steps.

Thanks to all who are posting what they did. It will come together eventually.

A minor suggestion. Since you wrote the guide in HTML, how about making the URLs in the document into clickable links?

Thanks for the input
