Walt, Jin, and Sawyer have 3 choices, go back, go forward, or stay and die. I think the writers will have them following the kidnappers/others. Probably by drifting on one or both of the pontoons.

I'm thinking the people on the boat wanted Walt because of his "psychic" powers.

Great episode though. I think it would be too much too fast if they had actually showed us what was in the hatch. I want this series to keep going on and on.

Agreed. Not a monster. Just the engine sucking in a piece of debris.

The fact that it is the Virgin Mary adds a fold of temptation vs. faith to the story for next season.

I thought the Hurley running through the airport scene was really too long and could have been edited out. Likely that the producers cut a scene for GMA and extended Hurley's scene.

On the "Monster"...

Listen to the sounds during those scenes. You start to hear 'machinery' type sounds more so than previous epidsodes. I think this bolsters the security system theories. Next season, going down the hatch will likely reveal the mechanized monster.

The actors that play Michael and Hurley are on Jimmy Kimmel tonight. (I forget their names.) They just confirmed that the people in the boat were definitely "The Others".

They also threw out this obscure linkage: The girl shown drawing the numbers when Hurley wins the lottery is the same girl that Sawyer is sleeping with in his original flashback episode. And is played by Michael's real-life wife.

Yeah... it seemed pretty obvious from the sounds that it was machinery that was dragging Locke around. What was CONTROLLING the machinery is another matter.

The numbers during the Hurley dash to the airport:

Hurley's hotel room: 2342
Readings on the car's meters: 42km/23°C/15KPH - speed drops to 8, then to 4
The selling price of the scooter in the airport: $1600 (Australian)
Numbers on soccer jerseys: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42
Gate Oceanic 815 left from: 23

Many of the sound effects and actions associated with the invisible security system monster remind me of the invisible "ID" monster, created in the underground Krell mind control laboratory by Dr Morbius to chase away the outsiders in the movie "Forbidden Planet"

I'm sure it's been mentioned here before, but TV Guide pointed out that Hurley's numbers are all numbers that have been retired by the New York Yankees:

4 - Lou Gehrig
8 - Yogi Berra/Bill Dickey
15 - Thurmon Munson
16 - Whitey Ford
23 - Don Mattingly
42 - Jackie Robinson

Also, someone posted in another thread that Danielle's scene at the end would be important. Did anyone catch what was significant?

Locke's bladder must be HUGE! The guy's got to fly from Sydney to LA and can't get up to go to the bathroom ONCE.

I'm thinking the fact that she heard the Others talking about taking "the boy", which then turned out to be Walt, instead of the baby.

Other than that, nothing jumped out at me, but if it was a hint of something to come, it wouldn't necessarily jump out immediately anyway.

Now the reason I noticed this was because she is wearing the boots that were brought up last week that the crazy lady is wearing now!!!
For some reason the boots stuck out....then a few seconds later they appeared again on a lady in the security line....i rewound, watched again, and it was the same lady!!!!!

blatant extra abuse!!!

They didn't show it, but while Hurley stopped to check one of his bags, the girl on the escelator went straight to the security line.

Now you don't have to watch GMA in the morning.

Heh... I thought about that too.

My thoughts...

Isn't Walt supposed to be able to make things happen? Why couldn't he stop the men on the boat from taking him?

And I agree with Grumpy Pants... I was pretty frustrated after watching this episode. The story lines are pretty interesting overall, but I'm always left with more questions after watching than before I started. I don't like that.

A particularly perceptive poster remarked on that after the "Pilot."

Also, at least one of the survivors has seen that movie. (Paraphrasing from the Pilot): "I've heard that sound before."

Well, I've only watched pieces of a few eps before tonight, (but was still able to follow it pretty well), and found it intriguing. Coupla questions, though.

1. Which army did Sayid serve in?

2. How come nobody freaked when they saw that the "monster" was seemingly a dark spectre? Although, I definitely heard mechanical noises as Locke was being dragged. They didn't even discuss the creature, even though it's the proverbial 800 pound gorilla in the room. Or, jungle.

I *really* enjoyed this episode.

Glad they killed off Arzt, he was getting really irritating.

The baby-stealing didn't do much for me. You could see that coming a mile away. Why on earth would Charlie leave Claire alone with a crazy stranger who had already abducted and held someone hostage?

I missed the soccer players' jersey numbers, too. Nice catch though.

Loved the scene where Hurley sees the numbers. That nightmarish "no, no, no, no" gave me chills. Why do you think Locke is so desperate to get in there?

I thought of the hanking too when I heard that beep.

You can count my roommate and I on this "Grumpy Pants" list too. We felt very let down after this 'season finale' was over. The show is really stringing us along with very few payoffs to the "Big Picture" of what's going on. "Black Rock" (answered last week) and Walt being who The Others are after is all we get? That's all!?!? And personally the ship's name being "Black Rock" is very contrived. Of course we're going to be surprised when we find out it is a ship. That's why the writer's picked it! It made no sense in only that it fooled us into thinking it was something completely different.

The writers of this show are obviously very creative (and detailed); I can't believe that they can't let us in on what's going on without still being able to churn out tons of other episodes.

I'm surprised to see that only a few people here are on the GP List.

At any rate, I'll still be watching next season. I'm not totally GP, but seriously I've never seen a show drag a story out so much that barely nothing is answered in the first season.

On a sidenote, I thought "The Others" were pirates at first. I was kind of hoping they would look more intelligent or civilized. These guys looked like homeless people.
