How many people will need hotel rooms? Post here whether you prefer something in DC or if the 'burbs are okay, and whether you want something on the Metro or if you're okay relying on a car to get around. Also you should note whether you're okay with a Motel 6 or you prefer a place with big fluffy pillows and room service. There are a variety of options for all of those choices.

I will be driving down in my own car and plan to arrive Saturday morning or early afternoon.

My current plan is to rent a hotel room for Saturday night, close to either the nighttime festivities or any Sunday morning/afternoon brunch/BBQ that might be planned. I'd like to keep the cost of the hotel room in the $80-$100 range.

I'll be visiting my cousin in Alexandria on Sunday evening and will be staying there before driving home Monday morning.

Wow, look what happens when I go away for a few days!

Ken, thanks for taking over the planning... I didn't get your PM asking for a poll until this morning.

You'll probably have to stop referring to me as the "guest of honor," however... I won't be able to make it that weekend.

This must be some misunderstanding. I was just asking to link it to the first page of your thread. I thought you said you could come either weekend but I understand things can change.

Should we now change it to the second weekend, everybody?

I was just trying to help, really.

Noo... I don't want anyone to change their plans on my account. The first weekend in August will be fine if that's what everyone else wants.

If you change it to the second weekend, I'll have to skip this one. But then I definitely can go to Cleveland, so I won't be utterly devastated.

Anubis can't come that weekend?!? I'm feeling bad about this. It's probably my fault we started talking about the first weekend in August instead of the 2nd weekend.

Can you make the second weekend, Anubis? This whole thing started because of you, it would be a shame if we couldn't see you.

My hope would be to have a long weekend in DC, since I'd want to visit with my sister, so I could try to plan on coming in before the weekend or staying after the weekend to get a chance to see you, depending on which week we settle on.

I'm not going to skew any planning here, but I might be able to make the first weekend thing. I'll be in south eastern PA at the end of July for my folks anniversary, and we'll be staying in the area for a week or so. If this meet happens 6-7, I'll be submitting a proposal to the wife...

Allie, your current avatar looks so much like one of my sisters that coming to this could be described as visiting family!

Triple ditto. Anubis was the impetus for the event, it should be when she can be here.

And the same here, even though I won't be able to make it if it's the second weekend.

Here's a compromise - Anubis, you said you're gonna be in town during the week... for those of us who are not going to be able to show up for a meet the weekend of the 13th, would you be amenable to a dinner or something during the week?

Then everybody wins. As evidenced by my recent Beep Expedition, I'd have no problems coming down if there was a reasonably attended dinner or evening event during the week. And I'm sure others who can't make it the second weekend, who are in the area, would be able to show up.

Then, you could still do the "meet" stuff over the next weekend.

My vote for moving to meet Anubis. I mean she did start the impetus for the meet guys. She's just been really busy with her new job and hasn't been able to check in here to see how planning has been going.

It will be tough for me to make it up the first weekend.

The Wyndham on M Street has good rates, and it's not too far from the Metro - generally weekend nights in the past have run us about $100. (NOT the Wyndham on New Hampshire, that one sucks.) If you sign up for Wyndham By Request, that also gets you some free goodies in your room at check-in, and free internet access. If I remember right, parking was like $25/nt if you're driving, and it really is a nice hotel.

Hang out together, eat, drink, talk, and play silly games like Jenga? Set up a webcam pointed at a trash can? Search for some mysterious beeps?

Plus, of course, there is jradosh's signature Monument Death March, and a ton of free museums, tons of restaurants, and much more.

I really don't mind if it's moved back to the 2nd weekend in August -- I'll try to catch dinner with Anubis before I leave. I was lucky enough to be able to see a lot of folks in Vegas, so I can live with missing the next big TC meet.

A bazillion people are clamoring for changing it to the second weekend for some compelling reasons.

Some people have to commit to (non-refundable) airfare, so this has to be decided one way or the other now.

Has anyone made any commitments based on the choice of the first weekend yet? If nobody steps forward saying they made a non-refundable commitment for something based on that, I think we need to look at the second weekend again.
