How were the Cylons connecting to Galactica's network?

The same way the took everything down in the miniseries. Baltar gave them the codes and I suppose they hadn't changed.
Brilliant Episode.

Starbuck - "The bitch took my ride!"

Where do you think Caprica Sharon is off to?

I can't remember the last time I watched a series program in almost realtime...

Just finished watching it. Man, one episode of this show is worth a whole season of any other show. Loved it.

Wow, really good! I hate how every episode is a TBC...though. Wasn't that a porblem with Alias at one point?

The codes to what? All they did was connect a few computers aboard ship in order to increase processing power. The Cylons would still have to find a way onto the network and even then all the systems on the Galactica would still be independent even if they shared processing time for a few minutes, right? I thought maybe I missed something...

That's my only nit, though. Great episode.

Nits.
One minute Chief & co are under heavy Cylon gunfire. Next minute, they just decide to walk out of the ambush - no gunfire. Continuity?
Also, Ted Kennedy would be having massive hissey fits over the XO's repeated striking of Cylon Sharon.

No, that's what made Alias good. The problem with Alias was when the show was turned into nothing but standalone episodes.

I enjoyed the BSG premiere, though. The special effects during the cylon raid scene were excellent.

I really liked the scene between Helo and Starbuck, even though it was the standard, "don't kill my quasi-evil girlfriend who's pregnant with my baby even though I can't prove it for sure" scene. Though what I thought made that scene was that there was some actual character development for Starbuck.

If the network included some form of sensors, you could imagine that as an access point for the cylons. No?

I am spent...what a night...all 3 shows were excellent...BSG was the best, as usual...

too many predictable things, though...the ambush and the guy getting shot, the raider with the cylons in it, the firewalls holding up till the last second (or did they?!)...

I'm more convinced than ever that Gailan (is that his name?) is a cylon...he could be the one to have handed Boomer the gun and now he managed to get the computers networked so the cylons can hack them...

Hate to break the trend of previous posts... but I was a little disappointed this time around. This whole episode felt like a placeholder, with no real serious movement in any of the plot threads that we had dangling in front of us after the season one cliffhanger. It had its moments ("That bitch took my ride" was one of the most awesome lines).. but the rest of it felt subpar, almost like Ron Moore was saying "Yeah, I know you waited 3 months... but one more week won't kill you".

After re-watching Kobol's Last Gleaming from last year, and how much was left in front of us, I'm surprised that this episode felt so much like it was running in place.

I was very surprised to see a new theme song and new opening credit sequence, even going so far as to include the number of humans. Notice, though, that the numbers don't match up between what you see on Roslin's white board in Kobol's Last Gleaming.

And I'm sorry... the flashbacks into Tighe's background were VERY disappointing. Yes, we knew he was a drunk. But it gives us no information on his character, his motives... heck, we barely see him as the drunken fool that's been alluded to over the first season. They tell us nothing about why he and Adama both left the fleet, and the whole thing felt like a waste.

I dunno. I was expecting more. And next week's previews look REALLY good, like they plan to get things rolling. But I'd give this one a C+

Yeah, it's hard not to believe that at this point--which makes me wonder if they're dangling a red herring... This show is difficult to predict.

Didn't people used to shake hands with their left, not the right?

now everyone is shaking hands with the right...or did I imagine the left-hand handshakes?

It was a little disappointing in that it didn't advance the main storyline, but as an action episode it was pretty exciting. I especially liked the chief's command of his soldiers.

I thought they were gonna go with a more effective/emotional line along the lines of, "Yeah, she's not like the other Cylons," or something to that effect.

Though the delivery of the bitch ride line was so great that I wouldn't want that line changed at all.

Wow. Wow.

Gaeta saved Tigh's butt with that networking trick. And I think the networking deal is significant...shows that they're willing to rethink everything to keep ahead of the cylons.

How will Star Buck and Helo get back now? Even Galactica has changed positions....

I only saw 5 cylons at the end....yet the previews

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

show many more. What gives?

And 6's hypothetical baby....is there really a baby, or is it a theory she's trying to sell on Baltar?

How long till SB caps Caprica Boomer? And how about Tigh's wife? Nice girl.

I think I liked last years theme song a bit better, it was a little darker and suited the show more I thought. This new one isn't really new, it was used for the UK broadcast of season 1.

I couldn't agree even strongly enough.

So long as the entire season is not TBC (like 24)...
But cliffhangers are good everyonce and a while...

I think six is pregnant...

I also like the theme song from season 1 a lot more than the new one...but then again, I'm always resistant to change at first

I think they quit doing the little preview reel after the beginning credits too, didn't they? I kinda liked that last season.

No, I think it was deliberate--it was too jarring. The Cylons are playing games.

I think this was a genuine mistake, by people who maybe don't understand computers very well. They seem to think that simply by virtue of computers being networked, outside access is possible. They probably don't realize that my home network would be totally invulnerable to hackers in China if I don't connect to the Internet.

They gave us the most important bit of information of all--that (and exactly why) he owes everything to Adama, why he is so loyal, and that he somewhat resents having been saved. As for the rest, there will no doubt be more flashbacks (where Adama and Tigh have younger hair if nothing else) to fill in more; they don't need to feed us everything at once, which is one of the strengths of the show. I thought it was very well done.

Were that the intent of the writers, they should have had Chief say something like, "The fraking toasters are just toying with us!" when the attackers just faded away. To me it appears as poor continuity. Jaring.

With all the ready availability of people who stayed awake in high school science you'd think that the most egregious errors in SF shows would be avoided. Too many of us ordinary viewers know enough about networking & viruses such that that very key sequence was laughable. Stuff like that makes me fall out of imagination entertainment mode and spoils things a bit until I get back into it.

As to BSG, I'm a latecommer, just having watched starting with the Kobol season ender and then watching most of the earlier shows - way out of sequence. I like the show but am not that impressed by the overall writing. It suffers in comparison with the writing for say "Lost" where both the meta story arc and characters are very well done. Contrast a typical 'Lost' character flashback with the weak XO & Adama flashes we saw.

I really don't think so. This is a show that seems to be allergic to spelling things out.

I think the writers were playing on our familiarity with bad writing to distract us. We're used to bad guys disappearing when they're not needed any more, so we assume bad continuity. We're used to the bad guys hitting the spear-carrier countless times, but never nicking the two main characters, so we assume bad writing. But this show doesn't seem to have bad writing (except for the networking thing, and they may yet surprise me on that); my assumption is that the bad guys disappeared because their work was done, and they didn't hit Chief and Callie because it wasn't part of the plan.

(You DO know that They Have A Plan, right? )

Who thought the younger Adama looked like he just walked off a '70s porn set?
He reminded me of Ron Jeremy.
