FYI- post counts

All of the threads that have been moved here have lowered your post count. So for those of you that have posted quite a bit in these threads, you've 'lost' them.

yeah, you can leave your feedback. However, if your feedback is criticizing any decision, you'll be screwed. Your opinion isn't worth anything.

Woohoo! I'm back to an almost respectable post count for the amount of time I've been here.

And this post doesn't count either.

We're told that post count doesn't matter.

And yet...

Someone's taken the time to make sure that posts made in this forum have no effect on our overall post count.

So... which is it?

Well...apparently not. So, who wants to make a bet that the posts really don't exist if they don't up the post count?

Thank god! I felt so... so... pathetic with my measley little post count!

But I'm still way behind... perhaps we can split more forums and discount more posts so my wee little ego isn't bruised?

You never know. That first time they try and be gentle since they know it hurts a bit... but the second time they may just go all gung ho on you.

Well, I don't mean to offend anybody, but I'm not too disturbed by the lack of post counting here, because playing games just seems so fluffy as to not legitimately count in my mind as 'posting'. True, Happy Hour in general is fluffy too, so you could make the same argument there, but even the fluffy threads there, in my mind, have more substance than playing word games.

I have nothing against playing games, but the nature of some of these games is such that an awfully large amount of posts can be generated very quickly, each with very few words in them, so it seems almost like a cheater way to generate post counts.

Why is everyone so concerned with their post count anyway? Aren't we all here to just talk about Tivo and hang out, maybe get some advice for the SOAK, post soome rantings, or a interesting news story that we found. This is supposed to be a community, does it really matter who has posted the most or least. IMHO, we shouldn't even keep track of post counts. Is there some special prize that I havn't heard for most posts in a month?

Not necessarily about post count - but all of htese word games, etc.. can also be viewed as a creative outlet or jumpstart for posters. I myself, know that when I'm feeling a bit out of sorts or just need a mental sharpening, I can always come to TCF and find mental stimulation. That stimulation can come from a one word post just as effectively as from a 100 word post. Why should it be counted any differently?

maybe we can do a "word count" to satisfy the naysayers

FYI...Post counts WERE NOT affected. The software does not have coding to remove post counts unless a post is deleted. Because a section is marked for post counts not to increase, it does not remove counts for a thread that was moved into the area. It has no such coding.

Thread closed for it was incorrectly started.

Thank you.

I stand corrected. It seems that coding was added to the current version of the software that does take into account where a thread actually is. (Tested it after I checked with the Vb developers.)

I apologize.

What do do about it, as far as the counts go, is another thing.

David, if you deem that our posts in this forum aren't important, I'd suggest that you remove all post counts from every forum except the TiVo Help forums. No post counts for Coffee House, nor TV Talk, etc etc.

That way, only the posts of 'value' have value to them.

I've been asking to have post counts removed since the Happy Hour was created.

I've posted as much myself at least twice. I don't have a problem with that and it certainly shows who knows and helps with the forums "primary stated intention" much more clearly. I'll go back to a sub < 1000 n00b but I won't care.

Right now, it's like you're saying that type A nonsense means something and type B does not. If I start a thread that us useful and lots of people post in that becomes never-end or veers off topic and gets moved, then suddenly they're all "useless".

Yeah I glance at the count now and again and when I've hit a YAMM is usually just stuck it in a post in another thread subtlety cause that seemed like a fun tongue
-in-check way to note it, but other than that, it is silliness. It's the first class versus second class post distinction that I think as annoyed most people. The way I browse, I'd probably not notice there were two forums now except for that.
