Would anyone be into going to a taping of the Colbert Report (the new Daily Show spin off) that Thursday night (Nov. 17th... that is if it is not a repeat)? I MAY be able to get tickets, but I'd like to get a count of how many I would have to beg for.

Pretty good, I thought. Not spectacular, but I laughed out loud at least a few times during each.

Let me be the first to suggest we check out a great coffee shop I know of. It's uptown and...

Oh, you know the rest.

Actually, wait. It's possible some people reading this thread havn't heard me mentioned DTUT five thousand times. Well, it's by 84th and 2nd. Yes, that's the upper east side. The name of the place stands for DownTown UpTown and is supposed to be indicative of the shop itself; they provide a chill downtown atmosphere at an uptown address.

I concede that the place is a little out of the way if you're in Times Square (but only a little, because if you live in NJ, as we do, all of NYC is close to one another once you're actually in NYC). So, yes, I do totally understand that, but with a meet that spans a few days, I'm sure we could squeeze a trip up there in one night. I propose the 18th or 19th - Friday or Saturday - but am definitely flexible if that conflicts with some other idea.

Anybody give any thought to where we might go on Saturday evening. We have quite a few definetes and a bunch of maybe's. Hooters was mentioned a few times but perhaps we might leave this to an after dinner event, we might get more turnouts with a slightly different venue. The heartland brewery where we had dinner last night accommodated us well and the room we were given was not to noisy so we all could have a good conversation. They had a nice selection of beers but the food I thought was only so so. After dinner we went to a place called stout, they were much noisier, but they also had a nice beer menu and the pizza we ordered was quite good. They claim to have rooms available for parties, so I was thinking that this might be a possibility. http://www.stoutnyc.com/ They also apparently can do a fixed price menu for a group as well. What do you all think?

tase2 + 1 are definite for at least Saturday night.

How many people are staying overnight?

I would like to put a vote in for heartland brewery. The less noisy the better for Mrs. tase2 as she has a hearing disability. But we are willing to go anywhere the group decides.

I think stout is too loud for the group as the primary meet, but afterwards I think it'd be a great breakout place. Seemed like a nice laid back pub to just chill.

IIRC Tivaholic is HS so we need to make sure if he's coming we pick somewhere that somebody under 21 can get in.

I agree that the general bar room at stout was a too noisy, but the web site indicates that they can accomodate parties, so I don't know if this would be an a seperate room or just a bunch of tables off to the side.

You can count me in, but I'm sure you guys already assumed that.

Pig and I know a great restaurant called Tony's. It's convientently located real close to DT/UT. When we were there before we were with a large group and everyone ordered a few items and then we all shared. We also sat at a round table which I think would be a lot better for conversations and such.

Hotels are way cheaper in NJ. Or, speaking of NJ, our couch is way cheaper than a hotel.

Since the midtown location of Heartland Brewery seemed to work so well for everyone, I was thinking about other options in that area. The first one that came to mind was Carmines. It is a family style Italian restaurant - they are used to accomodating large groups (we might even be able to get a round table).
They have party menus that include 3 appetizers, 2 pasta dishes, 2 entrees (all served family style so everyone shares HUGE plates of food), a dessert sampler and coffee/tea.
If this is of interest to the majority, I can get price info and make the arrangements. It would also be walking distance from Stout, where we can keep the party going!
What do you think?

Carmine's is a good restaurant...was just there a few nights ago with a huge group. Good food and good atmosphere. I'm not sure if there is more than one (I'm sure there is if you're referring to walking distance from midtown)...but I was at the one up at like 90th & Broadway.

That place sounds like a great idea to me! We should also get reservations at stout if we plan on invaiding again as we threw them off just walking in with 15people looking for somewhere to sit.

I think the uptown location was the original - they have a Times Square locale as well.

Try Spanky's which is next door to Heartland. It's smaller but they may have more room downstairs. They have great ribs. Also why not check into Stout, they were willing to seat us when we just showed up for drinks.
