Serenity Shindig - Friday Dinner

OK, the Friday dinner suggestions are starting to get buried in the main Serenity Planning thread, so I wanted to get a new thread going so we could have a central place to get some ideas going.

While brainstorming with StanSimmons this evening about possible locations for Friday dinner that had both (A) decent food and (B) good seating accomodations, Mom commented to me that a good place to eat for our group might be Greek Isles.

Greek Isles is an out of the way Greek restaurant (located in Plano, at 75 and Parker, for you locals). It's not a chain, and they've got awesome cuisine, it's very well priced, and it's close enough to Putt Putt and the hotel that it wouldn't be a major trek for our group.

You can look at the menu here. IMHO, it's very decently priced (averaging about $11 for a main course)... and it "tops out" with the Rack of Lamb at a reasonable $17.

And it's awesome, awesome food. They have amazing Garlic Butter Crab Claws for appetizers, and Baklava Ice Cream for dessert.

Mmm... time to wipe the drool off the keyboard.

Anyway, a big plus about this restaurant is the seating. They have plenty of space, and since it's off the beaten path, we're not likely to face crowds, even on a Friday night. Even better, my folks have known the owner for about 4 years, and he should have no problem setting aside tables for us if they call and ask.

That is just my suggestion, of course. If folks are up for other stuff, I'll go with them. It's all about the people for me, not the food.

Except those crab claws. I love you guys, but we're talking crab claws here.

I can eat my weight in crab claws. I vote yes to this suggestion.

Not much into crabs... but I definitely can pick out some things on this menu. Sounds good... but then again, I would be happy with just about anything. <g>

I object. This whole thing has been going too smoothly and everyone is too damn agreeable. If we don't get these threads up to eight or ninteen pages of fighting, no one will ever take Dallas meets seriously.

Let's see. Ooo, I propose that we have a picnic where Kennedy was assassinated, right there in the street. What a neat story that would be, and it's so cheap, too.

Dammit, I actually have been wanting to try that Greek place since skittles metioned it to me a while back. Ok, I'll roll over this time, but mark my words, this thing is going to get hard any time now.

I object to Samsara's objection.

I'm good with Greek. Sounds like we're getting some BBQ at the Shindig, which is something I was really hoping to have while there. So, I'm flexible for just about anything that you guys think works for the group.

Except anything with mushrooms. Yuck.

Are those steakhouses? In my opinion, I'd rate that a little higher than the Greek restaurant.

Mmmm.... meat.

As long as their aren't any mushrooms. Yuck.

OK guys... I need to get this locked down soon, so I can call up Greek Isles and get a reservation set up.

So, air your grievances now... or just join the chorus and nod your heads in approval. Either way, I'd like to know by Thursday.

If there's a majority of folks who would rather go elsewhere, cool. Otherwise, I'm gonna call up Greek Isles on Thursday afternoon and get a reservation made for our group.

Oooh, thanks for reminding me, Bryan.

Can I get a head count from everyone? The out-of-towners are pretty obvious, but for you locals, if you're bringing a husband/wife/SigOt/prostitute, let me know if there's a +1 or a +2 or a +3, etc., with you.

But you already have a wife.

And a husband.

Are you planning on stepping out on 'Chele and I and getting yourself a SigOt??

And with a baby on the way, too... tsk tsk tsk.

It was too bad you couldn't meet one of 'em too... The "X". You would have liked her. And she would have liked you... Then there's the one I tried to pull down from the Cities, but she was just too busy (after having been down the weekend before).

Always have a back-up plan, friend... always... hehe

Count four nods in the "yes" direction for the Greek here.

While the steak sounds great, that would be a pretty expensive meal even for one, and I'm a selfish bastard and I have four people to feed.
