Mini DC Serenity Meet? Sept 30th or Oct 1st

Not to take away from Skittles' large Dallas Serenity meet, but as someone who can't quite swing the finances to go there I was thinking it might be nice to have a small local get together to watch the movie.

I certainly enjoyed meeting up with some of you for the DC preview.

I was thinking about just a one day thing. Just getting food and seeing the movie.

Either Friday dinner and the movie, or Saturday lunch / dinner and the movie.

Just wanted to see if there was any interest and gather suggestions for preferred movie theater / restaurant.

Edit to add: I was thinking more DC area than necessarily downtown DC, but either way would be fine.

Edit (9/28 - Two days until Serenity):
Looks like the plan is to see it on Saturday Oct 1 and the new AMC theater at Tyson's Corner.
Let's pick a time and figure out who would like to come.

Edit (9/29 - Movie opens tomorrow):
Now scrambling to see if there is a combination of theater and time to get a group together.

Edit (9/30 - It's out!):
Guess this proto-meet just isn't going to work out.

We'll have to see. Both Laura and I want to see it but it will depend on getting a sitter and how far away it is... I'll keep an eye on this to see what get's planned though.

Will the move make sense if I haven't watched the show?

The poll is closed (I guess I missed this the first time around), but Saturday is out for me -- headed to the Nationals game at 4:00 PM. Friday could be OK, but it's hard to say for certain until Thursday or Friday itself.

The only time I could maybe do this would be Sat, very tentative maybe.

What he said.

And Firefly is about to take a serious dip in my Netflix Queue - my dying drive might necessitate including entire seasons of Alias, Smallville and a couple others instead. Yeah - disown me now

I would but it's a long long long hike down to you place.

Maybe a carpool thing would make it a bit more dooable.

Depending on the day, I'll drive down with ya

The chairs in Ken's media room are comfy. I'll come just so I can lay in them for a few hours

No, I saw it in May.

Do you think it will be showing at the new Tyson's Corner AMC theater complex that's opening on Friday? I can't find movie times for that theater, probably because it's not open yet.

Hiking is Sunday, and I think hiking through Tysons Corner Center was officially out...

Saturday is the Nats game for which I have tickets (4 pm start).

That sounds good. Now we've got a day and a theater. All we need is a time. (And a guess at who might show up).

(I've slightly lost track, what with the DVD watching being concurrently planned in this thread )

Oh, and while it will spoil a some things from the series, I believe that the movie can easily stand on its own. (That was a goal in producing it, since Universal knew it had to draw in more than just the existing Firefly fans in order to be successful). So even if you haven't watched the series consider coming along to see the movie.
