Thumbs up Anyone up for seeing Serenity in Los Angeles on Friday, Sept. 30th?

I'm royally bummed that I can't go to the Serenity meet in Texas, and true to form for our work, the server move that was supposed to happen that weekend got pushed back a week.

SO, as a consolation, I've decided to try to go to a nice theater in the LA area and see if anyone wants to join. I know it's short notice, but I thought I'd try to see who's interested anyway.

I can't seem to find any place selling advance tickets yet (I *think* they go on sale tomorrow), but I'm going to hit up "The Bridge" out there by Culver City and seeing if there were any shows in the ~8pm area. There's a ton of restaurants (Islands, On The Border, Jody Maroni's, a really good pizza place, etc.) in that immediate walking area so we could easily plan a quick dinner beforehand (5:30-6pm-ish?) in the event that anyone's interested.

If I can get a quick headcount, I'll prepay the tickets the second I see that they go on sale.

Who's in?

People going:

I'd love to but I can't.

And there are really no "nice" theaters to treat myself to here in town.

Shoot, i have all the firefly's saved up, but haven't watched them yet. Should I watch a few to get the general idea, or is it better to watch them all before the movie.

What day are you talking about?

Can't - we've got out-of-town visitors coming in, and I have to help watch their toddler (in addition to my own) while they go to a wedding.

Ummm... Skittles might be a better bet to answer this question as he's already seen it. I've seen all of the TV episodes, but don't know how much the movie will cover the background info.

Talking about this Friday evening at this point.

I've sent out a bunch of PMs to other LA people in TCF.

Should I put you down as a 'maybe' for now?

Question, I've heard the parking is the pits down at the Bridge.

What's the straight dope?

I haven't watched mine yet - so I'll be completely in the dark.

I go there for lunch all the time and parking isn't bad - but that's the middle of the day. I'm not sure what it's like at night.

Hey! Curse you guys for choosing this weekend, I'm moving house so I can't make it
JYoung - parking isn't great, but its ok. When you enter down the slope, turn left, instead of right (not as busy on the left side) and just head up a few levels. It seems to be almost all compact size spaces in there, so I just go up until I find a quiet level and park in a corner somewhere.

I can vouch for Jody Maroni's, but its barely a restaurant, more of a semi-outdoor take-out.

Edit: oh yeah, and there's a $1 flat fee for parking on the weekends (inc Friday night)

Sorry. I didn't set the release date of the movie. Would have loved to have seen you there, too.

I want to post who I've PMed so I can get suggestions for any other people I might be missing, but I'm retiscent to do so without everyone's approval..

Put me as a maybe. I'd much rather do a 10 pm show with dinner before. I'm coming from Pasadena, and that's really far to make a 7 pm show.

Well, there's 7:00, 7:30, then it goes to 9:50pm. Which one do we want to pick?

And what the heck does "Director’s Hall;Reserved Seating" mean?

Director's Hall means, you go and pick out exact seats ahead of time if you want, like Arclight if you've been there.

Plus, i think the theater is a little nicer.

It's very necessary when you're going to see a big blockbuster on the first weekend, so you don't have to wait in long lines.

I'm not sure how Serenity is going to do boxoffice wise though, certainly not like a Spider-Man.

Well, I bought 4 tickets @ $16 a piece. $12.50 for the ticket, $2.50 premier charge and $1 for the service charge.

We got the Director's Hall and the 9:50pm showing, so we're good to go. It should also allow ample time for dinner beforehand if anyone wants to join in.

Smak, if you go, we'd love to have you. If not, I'm not going to hold you to it, just let me know beforehand so I can find someone else to fill the spot.

I'm 98% in. 9:50 makes it that much easier, and I can make it to dinner if it's 8 pm or so.

Having assigned seats makes it so we can go inside the theater literally 2 mins before without any problems.

Curious, how did you get the tix? Did you go there in person, or get them via phone/online, and if via phone/online did they let you choose the seats?

Odd... I went online (I work in Brea, so it wouldn't have made sense to drive out to Culver City) and I didn't get to choose any seats.

Hmmm....

Do you think I should call them and find out?

Yes, that's what I thought. Unlike Arclight, you've never been able to purchase your exact seats at The Bridge.

In fact, for Matrix Reloaded, I drove down there from Burbank, so i'd know I could pick the best seats possible.

Call them up, see what you got.

And meeting around 7-7:30pm?
