Can anyone manage a better picture? And when, exactly, is that logo visible? I missed it while watching live in HD, and couldn't find it on my SD recording.
I was watching it live in HD and I almost jumped out of my chair when I saw it. Then, I went back to my SD TiVo'd version, and I couldn't see it, but I am 100% sure I saw it the first time while watching it live in HD. It takes place in the scene where Michael and Sawyer discover the pontoon, and Sawyer says, "I'm going for the pontoon," or some such. It's in the shot where the camera is under the water, and the shark swims right above the camera. We get a pretty good, long shot of the shark there, and the symbol appears on its underside right before the tail, IIRC.

Was it just me, or was the guy with the really long funky name introduced in the opening credits, but then he wasn't in the show?

About next week's preview:

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
I know he was in the promos for next week. Is that why he was in the opening credits?

No. I saw it myself (SD TiVo). It was only on for a few seconds, but I went back in freeze-frame and it was definitely there.

I thought it was pretty cool that the producers would do something like that...

I'm not saying that I believe that Ethan was Desmond's bunk mate, but there was another passage way. Jack's key was being pulled toward it. That was clearly a patched hole (I only noticed that while watching the rebroadcast of 2x01.) (Okay, now I'm doubting myself, now that I can't verify it since I'm not at home... But, when watching live it seemed clear to me.)

Lost-Media must be getting slammed. Here's another site (sixth picture down on the left):

http://lost-images-2.atspace.com/sc.../201/201_4.html

I'm guessing the buckets contain concrete to help patch at least the "bad" tunnel.

Also, as others have mentioned, it's likely that there are other tunnels simply because Desmond's surveillance system had to be re-oriented toward the hatch.

Could that be hint at the experiment? Some sort of "only to be used for this special purpose", whatever this purpose might eventually be? Or is it only a charge code?

That's it. Did some keyword searches on the transcripts...nowhere to be found.

Plus, I don't remember it...isn't that good enough?

My guess...

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
the 'others' on the island in the preview were 'infected' plane crash survivors. Not all of the survivors were infected. Ana Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez) wasn't infected and some of the other rear plane survivors weren't, but the ones that tied up Jin were from the plane crash and were infected

And desmond does/will recognize Jack. He didn't recognize him from a distance through the scope, but up close, he most certainly will.

Having missed last season except for the summer repeats, I wasn't privy to Claire's black eye/white eye dream, or Locke's loss of his legs, or most of the Ethan Rom stuff, or any of Walt's otherworldly powers. But I think I'm catching up now.

New to this whole Lost phenomenon, rented season 1 just before season 2 started, so now I am caught up. And fully engrossed...

My first thought when Desmond asked Locke "Are you him?" was that he was specifically looking for Jack. He had a "chance encounter" at the stadium years ago, and he was waiting for Jack to return to him. But, it had been a few years, so he wasn't sure if Jack would look the same. Any takers?

Also, didn't last week's episode end in the bunker with both Kate and Locke on the ground, with Desmond, and Desmond with the gun at Kate's throat? Didn't have it saved, so I couldn't go back and check, but that's what I remember...

No, last week ended with Kate missing and Locke with 2 guns pointed at him.

Wasn't it established in last weeks episode that Walt said "don't press the buttons"? Has anyone made the connection that maybe he means the buttons on the computer terminal?

Desmond and Jack exchanged names- if he was waiting on Jack, he probably would have used his name, or perked up when Locke mentioned it.

I got the distinct impression from Desmond that with the way he was acting he was definitely waiting on his replacement- "him" is his replacement. I also think that he's been waiting longer than he should have and his "experiment" may have been abandoned (hence no one can get off the island, the shark, etc)

It could be that the buttons keep the experiment going, and are not necessarily a bomb. It could just be that Desmond has always been told that entering the numbers is good, when it's actually bad for the island.

The most common ending to that joke is "Do you smell carrots?"

Here's the penguin (not snowman) joke from "Special":

http://www.twiztv.com/cgi-bin/lost....n1/lost-114.txt

Quote:
[INT. REHAB - ROOM -- FLASHBACK]

(Close-up of a drawing of a man in a hospital bed with a birthday cake on his
lap. His face and feet are bandaged up; his right arm and leg hooked on a
triangle-shaped holder. It's a pretty good pencil drawing.)

(In the background, we hear the normal, overhead sounds heard in a hospital or
rehab.)

(Michael is in a wheelchair and drawing when his nurse walks up to him. She
grabs the file folder and turns to look over his shoulder at his drawing.)

NURSE: Huh, that's really wonderful.

MICHAEL: Oh, thanks. For my son. He's gonna be two next week.

NURSE: Yeah? I didn't know you have a kid.

MICHAEL: Yeah. Yeah, um, he lives in Amsterdam with his mom.

NURSE: Ever go to visit him?

MICHAEL: No. No, not yet. I had a little, you know, run-in with a car. I
never know what to write.

NURSE: How about a joke?

MICHAEL: I don't know. What kind of joke?

NURSE: How about, "What's black, white, and red all over?"

MICHAEL: Yeah. The newspaper, right?

NURSE: A penguin with a sunburn.

MICHAEL: (chuckling) That's really dumb.

NURSE: Trust me, mother of four talking here. He'll get a kick out of it.

(The nurse turns and leaves. Michael goes back to drawing.)

Quote:
[EXT. CAVES -- NIGHT]

(Walt sits against the piece of plane wreckage. He pokes the fire in front of
him with a stick.)

(Michael walks over to Walt and sits down next to him.)

MICHAEL: Hey. I got a present for you.

(Michael reaches over to his bag, unzips it and takes out the wooden box.)

MICHAEL: Since you like to look at pictures.

(He gives the wooden box to Walt.)

WALT: What's this?

MICHAEL: Open it up.

(Walt opens the wooden box.)

MICHAEL: Every card, every letter I sent you over the last eight years.

(Walt stares at the cards inside the wooden box.)

WALT: You wrote me?

MICHAEL: (nods) Mm-hmm.

WALT: I never saw these.

(Walt swallows.)

WALT: Did my mom have these? (He looks at Michael. Michael doesn't say
anything. Walt looks at the cards.) Why didn't she give them to me?

MICHAEL: I don't know. But she didn't throw them away either, which means, you
know, somewhere inside she wanted you to have them.

WALT: So, you drew these?

MICHAEL: Just for you.

(Michael reaches into the box and takes out a specific card.)

MICHAEL: This one, I did for your second birthday.

(It's the card of the man in the hospital. He opens the card. Inside is
another drawing of a penguin in the sun.)

WALT: A penguin ... with a sunburn? (He glances at Michael.) That's dumb.

MICHAEL: Yeah, I know. That's what I said.

(Walt laughs.)

I have co-workers that call the computers everything from "that box", "the modem", "the monitor", "the hard drive" to anything else imaginable. I have also had people tell me they can't turn on their PC only to find out the computer was plugged into the power strip and then the power strip was plugged into itself!

So, it is not surprising to hear him say "that box".

As soon as I heard those "don't press the buttons" clips I had that exact thought.

Desmond is duped into thinking he must enter the numbers on the keyboard, but doing so is actually bad.

I also work in IT, for the record . We usually call a server, or a computer used for non user related functions "a box", but that most definetly wasn't the tone that Desmond used to Locke. It was more a somewhat disdainful, "I can't explain the miracles of the modern PC to you" style statement. It didn't seem to me that Desmond was really in a "IT" state of mind (Tho I've met guys probably just as crazy~).

Just an opinion, of course.

I think people are overthinking the use of the word "box" to describe the computer or terminal.

I thought nothing of it. I'm a software writer/engineer by trade, and I frequently refer to a computer, or occasionally other related equipment (e. g. router, DSL modem, etc.) as a "box".

Finally, things have loosened up a bit at lost-media.

Here's the legal conference rooms I was talking about way earlier...

Claire contemplating signing her baby away in Raised By Another last season. This was in Australia, right?

And here's Michael in last night's episode.

Now this should be in New York, as they went to great pains showing that Michael's lawyer's office was in New York. In the first scene there, you could wee the World Trade Center through his window. It's a little bleached out in the overexposure of the window in the screen cap, but it was clear as day on TV. Plus, it's the same kind of light fixture in the lawyer's office.

I don't know if there's anything to this, maybe just a continuity problem. Maybe that's the only law office set they have.

Shark Logo Screen Cap

Here's a large screen cap of the shark with the logo on its tail (from the HD broadcast). You can see Sawyer's legs in the background.
