I really don't care for Vegas, but none of the other options really appeal to me, so I'll go wherever the Con ends up. If that's Vegas again, so be it.

Perhaps we can try to schedule it so that the TiVo crew doesn't have to rush off to New York in the middle of it?

you really have no clue, if that's what you think, there are lots of things to do on a cruise.

Vegas. I think the success of other gatherings around the country have shown that the con doesn't need to move around. People have plenty of opportunity to meet up with other TCF'ers. I'm against the cruise since you are locked in for a specific amount of days. I like the idea of people being able to spend 1 day, 4 days, whatever they can manage.

I think Vegas is the only city in the world that has the atmosphere and environment that makes TC-Con so successful. There's nowhere else that you can go for a walk at 4am and run into people to spend time with.

Yes, we've done Vegas twice, and many of those who have been to Vegas have said already they'll go anywhere. And looking at the evolution of the Con from '04 to '05, the focus moved away from attractions and away from gambling, but still I think Vegas holds the best fit. Everyone has different interests that they like to share, and nowhere else can you find so many things in such a close vicinity that it can be shared by all easily. The problem with many other places is much like the meet in DC had, where those that went on the death march were pretty much separated from those that went to the Air and Space Museum, because of the time it takes to go between the two locations.

I don't disagree that the NYNY may not be the best hotel for us to go to again, we have simple needs -- A banquet room for a day to hold the convention in, and ideally a good rate to book the rooms for. It's nice that the rooms are mostly in the same hotel, but not the utmost importance. Lastly, airfare to Vegas is always at a good rate. It's cheaper for me to fly to Vegas than to Atlanta, or even Orlando most of the time.

As for timing, yes, weekends would be nicer, but I'm totally fine with taking a vacation to attend. More people are concerned with cost than the dates, so that means weekdays. And for the truly cramped for time, this can be done on 1 day vacation, if the Con is on Monday. You're missing out on a lot by being there so briefly (and I know the hard way), but it still was wonderful even for 36 hours.

As I said before, I'm willing to help with planning in any way you need me, Skittles.

I know that for my own ease and ability to afford going, I would choose Atlanta as it is only a few hours away. But I think Vegas would be the best place and will try and work on the wife to go if that is what is decided...

I need to get myself to one of these meets at some point...

But everything you have on a cruise, you have 25 of in Vegas.

I agree with Meinrad. This year's DC meet had dozens of people, the Orlando meets, Dallas meets, So cal meets all have tons of people.

This allows for the national once a year meet to be in the same place every year, since there are all these other meets that go on that attract a great many people.

My only question is do you try a different month? Different part of the week?

Maybe have the con on a Thursday? Or maybe July?

I voted "other." I said in the other thread that I doubt I'll ever go to a Vegas meet. But alot of you love Vegas, so more power to you. I'm keeping my eyes open for a feasible Eastern US meet. Keep in mind that most of the the early responders here are going to be people who regularly check out the meets forum, and that is mostly people who have gone to Vegas.

I am surprised at how many people are confident that a con can't work anyplace but Vegas. There are convention centers all across the country that have the stuff you are talking about. I regularly go to a national professional convention that gets around 5000 attendants, and I personaly know a few dozen, maybe over 100 of them. I always run into them just walking around, just like you are saying happened in Vegas. This has been in LA, San Fransisco, Miami, Chicago, Houston, even in Reno. If the key thing is people time, then you want a wide variety of bars and restaurants, places to hang out. Any convention center has that.

But that's all I'm gonna say about that.

He asked what there was to do on a cruise, i listed some.

and again it's more centralized, and for some of us that may become an important logistical issue.

anyway, like i said the vote looks to be going to vegas so i'm spitting in the wind here.

If we are making dibs for dates I will second the first week of June as I have the same thing that stoped me from going this year at the last weekend of June and I would need a buffer.

I know it is not about me but had to put in my .02 while I could.

First and foremost: Kudos to Skittler for re-enlisting for another tour. (are you nuts?)

My thoughts:

There were not enough choices in the pool - no Chicago? I would have one poll to pick the top two out of many and then another one to pick the final location.

I'm pretty sure this is going on a path to Vegas - my only recommendation would be to stay at a different hotel (why repeat unless there are $$$ reasons to do so), plan different activities/outings than last year. Make if so different than last year that afterwards we will all compare one to the other and argue which one was best.

Pick a date that the majority of TC'ers want. (another poll)

I still think a backpacking trip would be way too fun

At this point, I think I'm certifiable.

I truly believe it'll actually be easier to organize this year. And with a few extra folks to help me out from the ground up, it makes things a WHOLE lot easier.

I think you missed the first post.

And please, let's not get into the semantics of what the Poll SHOULD have been, or which options should or should not have been included.

FWIW - this year's DC meet had almost as many (or possibly more?) people as the TC Con.

And we ran into people in the hotel lobby randomly, too.
