That's true. But you can afford it. Not everyone can. And I personally would prefer not to miss out on the opportunity to socialize with people who might only be able to afford the $12 entree and a $2 soda without having to turn the heat down 2 more degrees this winter.

In that case, I look forward to seeing you for after dinner drinks. Last time around, those cost me and my date a combined $6. Heck, we coulda asked for that from strangers on the street.

I'll eat just about anything, so I'm not too worried about the menu choices except for the drinks portion, I'm opting for the Sodas and Juices.

So, count you as one more for the total people (which would bring it to 11), but don't actually add any more votes to the dishes? You would like me to add another tick mark next to "unlimited sodas and juices for $5/ea" though? Just want to make sure...

You really don't wanna pick any dishes?

All, I'd just like to stress here that this isn't ya'lls monthly NYC dinner and get together. This is intended for us to get together and have dinner with Indy. We have alot of folks coming in from way out of town (Myself included). So please try not to plan us out of the meet.

As I see it this is Indy's meet so lets make sure the plans can accomodate him.

You'd think it were illegal for two different things to go on at the same time in the same city.

It seemed Indy was more interested in a Hooters weekend anyway.

Besides that, this is just one night. Indy's in town longer than that.

So...... you're not coming then? I thought this was the plan for night two of three? As in, I thought you, Indy, and whoever else wanted to come was going to. No one - at least not that I know of - is trying to exclude anyone.

This was my understanding as well - and in a previous post Indy indicated that he would like the "locales" to plan the dinner, so we jumped in.

I assumed everyone who was a definate (and cared) was voting on location, and that everyone coming to the dinner was voting on their meal choices.

DavidTigerFan, if you have something else in mind and want to steer the ship, I will more than graciously bow out of the planning and leave it to you (and attend with bells on!) . I (and Pig, Ellinj, etc) were just trying to help make Sat night of Indy's weekend in NY fun. Sorry!

I thought that as well also...

The main problem were running into is accomodating a big group and whether or not to do it uptown, midtown, downtown... Regardless of where its held, its all within a reasonable distance by train, car, bike, taxi, etc...

I don't think this is anyones intent, but we are less about three weeks away and we do need to make plans if we are going to be able to have dinner together as such a large group. I haven't heard any objection from Indy so I assume he is okay with the dinner plans. I know Indy is in town and free from work on Fri and Sun, but I haven't heard a peep as to what his plans are on those two days.

Indy are you out there? Whatcha doing on Fri? How about Sat morning? I could take the day off from work. Oh and I am sure we can still fit in Hooters if you'd like

I'm not saying that we don't appreciate everything that you locals are doing. We certainly do. I just wanted to say that this meet is bigger than your average NYC get together and that the original impetus behind it was Indy.

YOO HOO! INDY!

Chime in here, mister. This one's in your honor.

We could do Hooters on Friday night and Tony's on Saturday. I'd show for both.

Well I guess my post there made me look like an ass and thats really not what I was trying to do. I hope that you folks know I appreciate the planning and everything. I just wanted this to be larger than just a NYC meetup.

What's with all the size queens around here these days?

Seriously, is there something lacking? Should the folks organizing this dinner be talking about it somewhere else and haven't been? Sure seemed a lot of folks knew (or at least think) Indy is part of it, so it's probably mentioned somewhere, right?

The Menu!

Okay, 11 people voted yesterday. No one voted today. Although I never announced a formal closing time for the vote, it seems to have ended on its own, so I shall announce what we're ordering based on what I've got.

Now, as best I can tell, there are 19 people going. Yes, the votes in the poll at the top of the page total 21, but I count 11 people who picked food + 7 people in this thread who said they were coming, but didn't select food + 1 Indy + 2 people who have posted in this thread, but said they weren't coming. So, 21 total people, but an actual party of 19. If that's the case, we are not bound to this menu, but it would still be available.

Damnit. We might need another poll! Should I (A.) place the order for this fixed menu or (B.) assume we won't have a party of 20+ in which case we'd be allowed to order off the full menu? Sigh. Well, we've certainly got time to work that out. So, without any further adu, I present the winners...

Salad
Ceaser

Apps
Tony's Shrimp
Stuffed Mushrooms

Pasta
Rigatoni w/Vodka & Mushrooms
Penne w/Broccoli, Garlic & Oil
Ravioli Napilitano

Entrees
Veal Parmigiana
Chicken Marsala
Salmon Oreganato

Regarding the drinks, as the votes were counted, the winner changed repeatedly. As in, the final count is very close to a three way tie between "wines & beer", "juices & soda", and "neither". That said, even though "neither" (aka: everyone orders individually) did not win, it lost by such a slim margin that I am going to make an executive decision and overturn the popular vote (much like the electoral college reserves the right to do). Had either of the packages shown stronger domination than they did, I'd do that, but because they didn't, we will all order our own drinks and split it as we see fit on the night of the event. Also, for the record, I voted "wines & beer", so I am reversing even my own selection.

And if anyone is curious, Ceaser salad won by a landslide. In terms of apps, those two placed a clear 1st and 2nd in terms of popularity. There would've been a tie had we needed a 3rd. Regarding pasta, there was one dish which placed a very close 4th, but none of the others even stood a chance. And finally, regarding the entrees, the Salmon was actually tied for 3rd with another chicken dish, but since Marsala placed a solid 2nd, it became "the" chicken dish. So, aiming to create variety, I gave 3rd place to the Salmon.

Of interest only to data freaks, including the Open Bar, there was a total of 11 choices which received no votes at all.

Oh, and one final note (I promise this time)... I don't like Veal and I don't like Broccoli. I'm quite happy with the menu, and definitely looking forward to this night, but just in case you let the thought enter your mind that I may have, just maybe abused my position, rest assured, I did not.

Or, vote "B" in the yet-another-poll I mentioned half way through the post.

In any case though, yeah, I guess it kinda works out that you can't make it to this one.

Do I dare suggest a three choice poll Fixed menu, set cap at 19 and hope for the best, another restaurant such as stout.

FWIW, I thought Stout was best before I even took the time and effort to determine this menu. But then, I looked at the original poll numbers and noticed Stout barely has a quarter the votes that Tony's does. The people have spoken and they want Italian! Vive la Tony's! (or something)

Planning a meet (as I recently learned), and trying to please a large number of people can be a pain sometimes. But it looks like you people are doing a great job, and it will be lots of fun.

Wish I could make this one.

Maybe I'll come visit NYC in mid to late December, after finals, and you can plan another one.
