I know the feeling. That's how I got into the city when I worked there. If I get in for the meet, I'm driving.

As much as I loathe the Port Authority, it's worth the inconvenience to save money on gas, tolls, and parking, not to mention trying to find someplace to park on the Upper East Side on a Saturday evening.

Is the train an option, Gray? Penn Station's a lot easier to deal with than Port Authority.

Not on weekends, alas. Penn Station is how I'll be getting home on Friday.

OK, I've booked my mid-November travel up to the Pacific Northwest, and I'm coming back the before the dinner.

That's the good news. The bad news is that I may not be able to make it anyway, as I may be getting together with some friends, in the opposite direction from NYC.

True. But it's kind of a standing invite on the other end that goes back a few years...

From what I gather about the plans, it doesn't sound like that portion of their own trip this way will be in the time frame of 11/19, but I'll let everyone know...

Sadly, as we get closer to the event, it looks like I'm less likely going to be able to attend (not that anyone will miss me!).

Please keep me on the maybe list for now.

The menu has been decided. I'm sure pigonthewing will chime in with it soon. Do we have a final count?

I haven't booked the final reservation yet, sorry. I've been very busy, actually.

So, I was just about to day when I discovered more fine print. First up, if we get there at 6pm, we have to leave at 8:30pm. If we don't, they'll make us. That seems plenty long enough, but to be honest, I don't like that it's a rule. The deposit is non-refundable. That doesn't seem like too much of an issue, but I don't like it either. It should only be non-refundable, I say, if you cancel within a week or something. Speaking of within a week, that's when the guest count needs to be confirmed. Also, if more people come, we pay extra. If less people come, we pay the same amount anyway.

I stand by my initial assertion that this was a great place when I went with twelve. With 22, I'm really not sure anymore. We also seem a little too far along to call it off now. I know theinstigator is fine with making two seperate reservations (I'll make one and she'll make one) for 11 people each. I know that means seperate tables, and the only way to keep 'em close to one another is to hope. But, then we aren't required to follow any of these rules. Order whatever and stay 'till whenever. It'll be like Heartland, but with Italian food. Thoughts?

If we decide to keep going as planned so far, that's cool. But I wanted to clarify the new rules I've learned, and ask how everyone feels about them.

Personally, I really don't think the two table thing will really work out to well, Cheryl, was there such restrictrictions when you talked to the people at stout?

The thing is, with 22 people, you're still not going to be able to talk to more than the 5 people around you without getting up.

Exactly.

Why not just go? Without the rigamarol of a committing to a menu and such? It'll be tons cheaper without the restrictions. Do they just make you do that with a group this large?

It seems like were all pretty much on the same page with the food, so that shouldn't be much of an issue if we freestyle it.

But let me say that I do appreciate all of the groundwork done by everyone involved. I'm totally excited for that weekend.

I'm still trying to figure out if I can make it.

My trip with my friends, to follow a trip out west to visit another friend, would end by late on the 18th. I'm assuming I won't be falling over sleeping by all this travel in a row!

I'm gonna try to figure out how to make it.

Wow - I'm not too crazy about the "leave by 8:30PM thing". We spent more than 2 1/2 hours at Heartland last time, and I don't think we want to be rushed.

Stout is still an option - we would have 2 tables, but they would put us in a private room. While we might not be the only group in the private room, they promised me they would try to put us in the quietest room so we could talk, mingle, whatever.

I think we need to make a decision very soon, or we will have a big problem getting a reservation anywhere with a group this large on a Saturday night. Peeps?

While I would love to go to Tony's I originally voted for Stout so thats my stance, I think Tony's would be good for one of our future monthly meets.

Sigh... Tony's mid-town won't take a reservation for 11 people at 6pm. He offered me 4pm or 7:30pm. Blech. And theinstigator hasn't even called yet to make her revservation for 11. I think they're out. Sigh. I vote Stout.

We need to do Tony's some other time though! It really is pretty awesome. I swear.

Ok, and I am being serious here, why not try for the two table thing? I've been thinking about this. When we were in one long table I didn't get a chance to talk everyone anyway. We would be in the same place, and we could migrate occasionally if we wanted to. If we want to socialize more we could always move to a different location. It just seems that Tony's would be a lot easier if we divided the group. Am I really that crazy for supporting this idea?

OK, I just left a message at Stout. When I speak with them, I will book the group.
A prix fixe menu is available, but I think we should just order off the menu. I will let everyone know when the reservation is made.

Pig, I think we should do a Tonys/UTDT night for one of our monthly dinners when we have a smaller group. Thanks so much for all your work with this.
