TC-Con '06 - The Final Date Poll

OK guys, I'm starting up one final date poll for TC-Con '06, so we can get the week of the 'Con nailed down and the planning committee can get cracking on all the things we have to get ironed out.

I went back and reviewed the original date polls that Gregor was nice enough to create (thanks again, Greg!). It looks like June is our biggest contender for the month of the 'Con again, beating out the other two options (August and July) in both the number of people casting votes, and the number of votes cast in total (since the polls allowed for multiple votes). So we'll narrow this down to June only.

I'm also setting up this poll so folks can only vote for their one favorite option.

Please vote for the week you'd prefer to have TC-Con '06 in.

Also, if you have a particular reason for/against a week, please campaign away in this thread. Folks often have good points about their preferences, so don't be afraid to go into detail about why you prefer a particular week, or why you're against a particular week.

I will start this by saying that I'm voting for the last week in June, for two very solid reasons (at least, IMHO).

- The later in June, the more likely it will be that TiVo has already had its Christmas in Summer function. This means the TiVo folks won't have to worry about leaving on a red eye flight a few hours after the 'Con is over. It means the TiVo folks might (if you persuade them strongly enough) stick around for a day or two and help us celebrate our love for TiVo and each other. Plus, it means they can spill a few more secrets for us, as opposed to the past two years where Mum was the word because they weren't allowed to break certain news before the summer function.

- The later in June, the more parents that will have their children out of school, and that means we'll probably get a few more folks to attend. A lot of folks have complained about being unable to attend over the past few years because their children were still in school and that prevented them from attending.

So, get to voting. I'd like to call a close to the poll by November 24th, Thanksgiving. That gives two and a half weeks for voting, which ought to give everyone plenty of time to discuss this and cast their vote.

And let's keep this constructive please. Thanks in advance, guys

Any advance word on whether one week will be substantially cheaper than another? I know that is certainly a concern for some people.

Judging off the small handful of numbers I've seen, the last week in June looks very nice. ellinj (at least, I think it was ellinj) found room rates for Treasure Island for $89 that week.

The beginning on June is not good for me. The last 2 weeks of June are best, but it sounds from other threads that the last week in June is better for others as well, so I went for that one.

If it's Jun 19-23, we have to celebrate my birthday on the 20th. I'm just saying...

I can't think of a better way to celebrate than with my friends!

Ok, next question, what day of the week would the con be? I like a Tuesday or Wednesday day better than Monday.

I'm on the 21st.

But I'd rather have Miro there, then to be able to have my birthday there.

Personally, I'm planning on being in Vegas the whole week, so I don't really care.

Monday is nice because people who have a minimum of vacation can travel on Sunday. IIRC, that's why we moved the day from Tues to Mon.

I personally plan to be there all week as well, but I think the begining of the week would be better for those with limited vacation time. Unless we plan to move the con to a Friday which I think is a bad idea do to the higher room rates over the weekend.

TI for $89? Sounds good to me.

I won't vote in this poll, as it really doesn't matter. It's so far off in the distance that I can forsee anything that will conflict with any week in June.

I still don't know if I can go.

I graduate from my LL.M. program at the end of May. By the end of June there will be one of two situations.

1) I don't have a job, which gives me plenty of time to go, but no money.
2) I do have a job, which gives me plenty of money to go, but no time.

I hope and pray it's 2) (I'll be in serious trouble if I don't have a job), but that I somehow get the time to go.

My kid will be getting out of school June 19 or 20, and if he has snow days to make up, even later. He'll probalby have a junior high graduation. So, as much as I love y'all I love my kid more. Therefore, I vote for June 26 or later. Oh, and so Miro can come too.

Date does not concern me, price of room does. So I like TI for the hotel.

It will likely be Monday that we primarily look into, since Mondays are usually a lot cheaper for ballroom costs, and that means a lot of the quicktrippers can come to the 'Con without having to take a lot of vacation days. Having it mid-week, even on a Tuesday, may prevent a few folks from attending.

Monday seemed to work pretty well for the Con. Though, this time I'll be getting into Vegas on Sunday so I can have fun Sunday night. And stay longer than until Tuesday evening.

Looks like it's going to be June 26-30. For me, it'll have to be June 25-29, because I have to be at work on June 30.

Why do you people keep scheduling events at the end of calendar quarters? Those are four of the 12 days a year that I have to be at work.

If I didn't love you so much, I'd punch all of you... oh, forget it.

Ok, Monday is personally bad for me in that particular week, but whatever's best for the group.

I'll abstain from voting as I will probably make it regardless of which week is scheduled.

The latest date is clearly the best because there should be no conflict with the Stanley Cup Playoffs. No other reasons are significant.
