I don't think it should be off strip unless it's the Palms, and even then, I wouldn't be in favor of it.

I think I'll be okay. I've never had to take a 20 minute break after drinking some jello shots. And I've been on 4 Contiki tours and drunk my way across several countries.

Joules,

Don't worry about making breakfast. Not all of us are insane enough to get up so damn early for breakfast while on vacation in Las Vegas. Stroll down to a the coffee bar at 10:00ish, and you'll find peeps.

Nah, we're not just considering the TI. At least, I'm not, and I know a few others aren't. It's mostly a case of "What's the nicest hotel we can get while paying the cheapest price?".

That's why I started the thread. I'm willing to bet that with everyone that peruses the Meets forum, at least one person has been to every major hotel on the strip, so we can get lots of ideas going. I want to hear folks opinion, pro or con, against hotels. We don't have to do TI, Flamingo, the Hilton, or even the Luxor if there are better offers made by hotels that are just as nice or nicer.

I don't think I've seen this figure, but about how many people are we expecting to attend? Around 100? Ya think? I have no idea... this will be the first TiVoCon I've been to.
We had roughly 85 each year for the 'Con.

This year, my goal is to break the 'Con's attendance figure into triple digits. And boy howdy, I'm gonna do my best to get us there.

That's exactly it. NYNY isn't a bad hotel, but we've been there twice now, and each year, they've done nothing in particular to cater to us as a group, so we really have no reason to be faithful to them. So we might as well change hotels and get a little breath of fresh air in the 'Con. Speaking from things people mentioned to me planning the '05 'Con, people were getting tired of the NYNY. So let's move down strip a ways! People can see new and different things. Who knows? Maybe we'll like some of the cafes in our new official hotel better.

Trust me. There are only a few things the 'Con hotel has to do for us as a group in Vegas. We need nice, decent rooms at a reasonable price. A place where we can be comfortable during those scant hours where we sleep, and one that'll hold our 'Con event well.

Everything else is about the Peeps/Peaps.

I agree about moving it from NYNY, but not to an off strip location. In my casual checking, I saw a few different places, all on the strip, all within the same ball park room rate wise as the NYNY. Since so many people hang out and do stuff all over the strip, it just makes sense to stay there.

Two new points to bring up more discussion...

- The Hooters Hotel now has a Travelocity room rate of $82 per night for the week of June 26th - 30th

- Luxor is averaging about $85 per night for a room during the week of June 26th - 30th.

That's what I found as well. Go to any travel site and look for airfare and hotel and you'll see all the hotels clustered together.

That sounds a bit more sane. I'd rather be late to bed, late to rise personally.

One thing for sure about the Hooters hotel, you know its gonna be a nice one considering its brand new.

I also know its close to the airport. I remember driving right past the location it was being built last time.

I have no real preference. Staying at TI sounds fine by me. However, if we're planning another trip to the Saphire Club (or whatever that place was called), I'll have to insist upon Circus Circus if I'm going to be able to afford it.

DTF - Well... it depends what you mean by "brand new". The Hooters hotel is a rename/remodel of the San Remo. not that you didn't already know that

Yeah, but when Vegas remodels, it might as well be brand new.

For some reason when someone mentions a "themed" hotel, I always imagine what the TCF peeps would look like if we had a dress-up party in that hotel's theme.

Star Trek theme for the Hilton
Pirate theme for TI
Ancient Egyptian theme for the Luxor

Who wants to be King Tut?

are they actually remodeling? I have heard the words takeover of san remo used, which imply's to me not much of a remodel.

looks like they aren't taking over the entire san remo. The entirely new sounds good.

Quote:
It's going to be an entirely new property," San Remo General Manager Mike Hessling said Tuesday. "You will not recognize a portion of the San Remo when it's done."

Yes, but is it now owned by a billionaire gold-digger who will design the shower stalls herself?

You don't want to get trapped in there!

Unless, of course, it's with the right person.

Mr Ding. I can just see him in that old skool Batman episode.

I've stayed at the Luxor, in the pyramid. Big whoop. Banged my head on the sloped ceiling twice. Room furnishings were spartan at best.

Bellagio is out of our price range, but I really enjoyed staying there.

Got a free room at the Rio one time. Huge room, but very Holiday Inn-ish. And seemed a bit tired. Also off-strip.

After looking at the pictures of TI on Vegas.com, I have to say I really like it. If rates are around what we payed for NYNY for TC-Con05, I'd say I'm in.

I would be very happy with that as well. Mid-strip and a reasonable price, what's not to like?

I'd be happy with Treasure Island as well. I prefer to be on the strip.

If we end up at TI, let me recommend Isla restaurant for some amazingly creative and tasty food... although I imagine some of you will be more interested in the Tangerine nightclub.

Not terribly big on nightclubs, but I'd give Isla a whirl. I wonder if they do breakfast?
