Yup. The only thing that moved forward was bringing the two camps of people together. The rest was learning about the about-to-be-offed Shannon's troubles. It really felt like a "bridge" episode.

whatever he is, walt (and the others) seemed to have manipulated what happened at the end.

i had an inkling they were going to run into eachother when they were walking past the same type of high grass/weeds.

completely missed Jack in the hospital though...

i liked the episode, but it wasn't 3 weeks of hype good!

Once it was clear that there was a thunderstorm going on over both groups, I figured they were on the same island.

one other note...

the tail tribe is merging with far less members...the front tribe will just start picking them off, one by one...

I agree it seemed kind of wasteful to dedicate all that backstory to her only to kill her right off. I was actually starting to think she was not going to be the one to die, with so much story being devoted to her, and all the focus on her and boone in the recap and then the show. After they told us someone was going to die, it just seemed too obvious...like some double reverse psychology or something ("they know I know someone is going to die, but I know they know I'll think ...")

But interestingly, we didn't actually see her die. It seems fairly obvious that she's dead, but then we also have that other girl missing. I suppose it's possible they could do a switcheroo on us and have her somehow get saved. However I doubt it, with all the other evidence about her leaving the show.

she has a hole in her gut....there's no way she survives since they're far (or so it seems) away from Jack and the rest of the camp. Sawyer on the other hand provides too much angst for the rest of the group and will be saved by Jack.

Nice little surprise ending there. I definently liked this episode better than the last one.

I was really beginning to believe that the whole character death thing was a big fake and than Bam! they pulled that twist on us. I wasn't that surprised by who died though because I'd been thinking it would be Shannon ever since I saw The Fog.

Sawyer isn't looking to hot right now. Hopefully he isn't going to be the next to bite the dust.

I completely caught Jack's cameo in the flashback. I really had to pause and look hard at the person to make sure though (crappy, fuzzy analog).

It will be interesting to see what happens when the two groups collide finally. I'm particulary looking forward to the Rose and Bernard reunion.

FWIW, does anyone happen to know how old Shannon is supposed to be on the island? I want to say I remember her saying 21 or 22 last season but I'm not sure. I noticed in the flashbacks she said she was 18. Anyone know?

One last thing of note, I didn't get a real good chance to hear what Walt said but it sounded like a foreign language to me, perhaps one of the African languages. Knowing these forums someone will come up with a sound clip soon. .

Totally agree.

Here's hoping Sayid rips her throat out next episode.

Pretty sure it was Scott. (Steve?) The guy Ethan killed. (Charlie buried Ethan deeper in the jungle, and I'll bet not adjacent to our survivers' own dead.)

They cremated the Marshall.

I thought they buried him...and then dug him up for the key to the case.

But anyway, Sayid mentioning that his gun is for protecting Shannon had me think that he would whip it out right away and plug Anna, and I thought he was about to when he stood up, but sadly...

Fade to black-

It wasn't that easy to tell it was him in HD either. Frankly if no one had mentioned it, I never would have known.

So now what should the response be? I say that bossy b**ch has to die I mean she did kill someone in cold blood. I watched the show with two friends and both thought that might be what was going to happen after they heard the voices with both groups, however I had no idea.

Man, oh man!

If looks could kill, eh?

Naveen Andrews does extreme anger really well.

Sayed still had a gun in his pants at the end, yes?

Speaking of ripping throats out...

Locke was looking pretty peeved at Charlie after learning he was carrying one of those Virgin Mary statues (filled with heroin) around too!

Hurricane Katrina put my local ABC affiliate's HD transmitter under about 10 feet of water.

They don't think they'll have it replaced until next summer (after the complete season) at the earliest! (Their analog transmitter was under water too, but they put a huge priority on replacing it and have done so.)

I'm stuck with SD (unless the ABC affiliate grants the HD waiver I've requested).

Great episode!
I just wanted to ask if anyone knows what they mean by "extended" for next week's episode. TiVo has it at an hour, and TV Guide does too.

I also thought the episode was a bit weak. Halfway through I started thumbing through a magazine and noticed my wife was doing the same thing.......that's a sure sign we're not riveted.

It was crystal clear with our standard Directv signal. My wife and I both yelled out "There's Jack" at the exact same time.

Of course it was Jack b/c I was expecting it to be Jack. We already know from previous episodes that Shannon's dad died in that hospital from a car crash at a time that Jack was there.

Why wouldn't he be there?

Yeah, the episode was pretty weak overall.

What was up with the Locke/Charlie/Claire triangle? I know the main point was to let one of the Lostaways in on the fact that Charlie might be on drugs again, but of all the people on the island, does Charlie really need to worry about Locke? Most of the time, Locke is easygoing and does his own thing and seems to me like the type that would never horn in on another person's relationship. Hmm, maybe that was the point the writers were trying to make: that Charlie's thinking is so irrational now, that he's getting very defensive in sitautions he doesn't need to be. If that's the case, that was a REALLY weird way of bringing that plot point up.

And I wasn't surprised about the death at all, especially considering how the episode began and the nature of the flashbacks in general. I actually predicted how they were going to die, too. I need to learn to take off my writer's thinking cap while watching Lost.

I'm so sad... poor Boone.

That woman leading the tail section group needs to die; and that was my opinion long before she shot Shannon. She earned dying even without that bit of stupidity. All she knows how to do is yell.

You must have missed the first season episode where Locke helped Charlie kick heroin.

Locke was obsessed with helping Charlie kick heroin!

Locke has an obsessive personality, we have learned, and a bit of a temper at times.

Locke would be SERIOUSLY PO'd if Charlie falls off the wagon.

This scene fit perfectly into that dynamic!

I've seen the first season, it's just been a while. I think that's a clue for me to go get the DVDs. Thanks for clearing that up, though.

Same here... As soon as I heard that I checked the guide and tvguide.com.

Is there a list somewhere that has all of the connections the survivors have made in flashbacks? I'm wondering which characters have either interacted with each other (Jin and Sun don't count) or have been in close proximity (i.e. Jack walking past Shannon; Sawyer walking past Boone at the Australian police station). I don't think anyone has actually directly interacted with another survivor in the past life, not counting Jack and Ana at the airport.

Since we didn't see Shannon die. My quess is that they rush back to Jack and he again can only work on one person. I guess that person won't be Shannon.
