Channels you recieve....

You have three options... All Channels (which you can't adjust), Custom 1 and Custom 2... In Custom 1 & 2, you can select your channels that you want to see in your guide...

good lord, when will the software only be able show in the guide only channels we subscribe to ?

directv is goin backwards not forward

YES. That's the stuff I was talking about. The interactive demos on the NDS site are like that. I will use the hell out of that stuff. Don't know why. And I totally see where a lot of people won't. But I will. I really miss the text-only slow-as-molasses interactive features on my old DirecTV Plus receivers.

How exactly is this backwards from the DTiVo? Sounds like one more option to me. Was I asleep when this feature got added to 6.2? Only a true fanboy could make a plain-as-day improvement (added functionality) sound like a negative thing.

Still working on it.

This might help, but it's from the early draft of the manual, so it may not be valid any more:

Quote:
Once you have scheduled a program to record, you can change the record options or cancel the recording by selecting the program in the Guide or the To Do List (press LIST, then YELLOW); then, select the Record item in the left menu, and follow the onscreen instructions to change the program's options or cancel recording completely.

You can change the following record options:
- For all programs, you can extend recording start and stop times (for example, start 1 minute before the program; stop 5 minutes after the schedules end of the program).
- For programs with multiple episodes, you can select whether to record first run programs and repeats or just first runs, how many episodes to keep, and how long to save the recorded program.

I did just find where to set "First Run" options... Found it in the Manual, but in the TroubleShooting section....

I just Updated Scheduler, and reformated it (more of a review, then blog).

The part the manual doesn't say... Is that when you are in the record menu, you have to go to a different TAB to get to those options.

You say it asks if it's OK to change channels... If you do, it switches right then (5 minutes early). I can see where that would be handy, but I can see where it would be bad, too (if you didn't know it would happen.) The question is, what if you tell it no? Will it remind you every minute? Remind you with one minute left? The way the UTV does it, it just pops up a minute before time and scrolls along the bottom, telling you it's going to change. It has a "stop" button if you don't want it to. If you do nothing, it changes at the proper time.
Can you find out what happens if you ignore it or tell it not to switch?

I will certainly try those in an upcomming test.
Not sure if I can get to it tonight though, but by Sunday... I certainly will.

great ... not

no early start, now we are at the mercy of channels not starting shows on time and we miss parts of them

so for directv through updates, they need to do the following

dual live buffer

channels only recieve in guide

a suggestion feature

what else ?

Sweet. Take your time. Great stuff so far. If you're bored right now, though, I wouldn't mind a little clarification on one topic: It seems like you're saying you can't stop a recording, because every time you stop it, it starts right back up recording? Obviously, that can't be right, but I just don't get what you're saying?

No early start? Says who? He said clearly there's standard padding options. Start early, end late, etc...

Yes and no... but really... You can stop the recording.

When I first tried it... I hit the Record button again (thinking it would be a toggle). It displayed the stop recording menu... pick an option, and it wouldn't stop recording.

But when you actually hit the STOP button... stop recording menu comes up, and it does stop the recording.

He did say that there were no late starts or early endings though (just like the tivo). Maybe the poster got mixed up.

AAhhh.. So when you ARE recording something, and you hit record (to tell it to record something it's already recording), it thinks it needs to stop recording it so it can record it. And it does just that. That's a little weird. Sounds like an easy enough fix for them though. ? Probably something for the next update. I'm trying to remember what UTV does when you do this, but I know it's not this. I think it just shows the record icon briefly on screen to gently remind you it's already recording. No sound, no message, just a little red dot fades up and back down.

Thanks for the clarification.

The poster has been trolling since post 1. Charming record so far:
Tried to "call out" Robert on "inconsistencies" with his shipping story
Tried to "uncover" the fact that the hard drive in the R15 is somehow fake, or does not exist (that's a stretch)
Tried to uncover this consiracy AGAIN, because people obviously ignored him the first time.
Tried to claim that the channels you receive feature is worse than the DTiVo (when clearly it is better)
Ignored/tried to negate the padding options which have been describes as "exactly like" TiVo's.

What's next?

My guess the Custom 1 and Custom 2 is what willmake up the Channels I Receive, I have to go along with DesignDawg and MANY others on this site Suggestions is one of the first things I shut off. Tivo always came up with a ton of stuff I had NO desire to watch and it annoyed me to have to delete a ton of garbage so it's turned off on all 3 of mine.

I am working on those...
I am first trying to get through the Guide Setup video file, then I will go to the GUI... I will get those up before I crash tonight.

Alright... just setup another test:

LIVE was on Channel 5 (NBC)
Setup two recordings for 11pm...

Popup (that takes up about half the screen, will post screen shot later).

Two options:
OK, Change Channel
Don't Change.

In the text, If you select Don't Change, the recording will be canceled.

I have now left it up there for 2 minutes, and it is still there...

Opinions, yes. Absolutely. But outright lies and spin? No thanks. I gladly accept the opinion that "suggestions" is a great feature. Hey, a deal-breaker, even. Whatever. But the "opinion" that the R15 doesn't have padding? Or that its "channels I receive" is inferior to DTiVo's? Gotta call BS. There's proof to back me up. Thus, not an opinion. Anyway. Thanks for the hard work, e. Riveting stuff so far. I actually found myself watching this thread MORE THAN the new episode of "LOST" tonight!
