Smallville 12/8/2005 (S05E09) "Lexmas"

Up until the end it was like a 21st century version of the Waltons Family Christmas.

What a sucky episode. It was lame from the start, and lame through the end.

Try Nic Cage's "The Family Man." (Which makes it a meta-reference, what with Kalel Coppola Cage)

I liked Clark's story though. Reminded of those cheesy Santa/Superman stories DC used to do in the 60's and 70's.

I liked Clark delivering the presents. The whole Lex thing was way bad.

So that's why Lex became the world's greatest supervillain? He can't handle the pain of losing someone?

What the heck ever happened to just being pure evil?!

Or because he's bald and he blames Supes?

Ditto here. It was something about a Smallville movie "event." I don't see anything special on the upcoming episode list, however. Does anyone know where to find the preview? WB's site still has the preview for tonight's episode.

Just a preview? It was a Smallville Movie Event which just so happens to be last season's cliffhanger and this season's premiere airing again, but on the same night

Definitely a throwaway episode. Lex takes the dark path to save Lana's life. Got it. Next?

Yeah, I found Lex's "epiphany" to be very much of a letdown too.

And Zod save me from these "special Xmas" episodes whose conceit is that Santa is real.

Well, at least we got to know why Lex would go down the route of dirty politics. He's been pretty much playing fair until now.

Lana falls deathly ill, and the imaginary Lex's first move is to ask his estranged father for help? What, Senator Kent doesn't have any resources now? And Clark, Chloe, and the Kents aren't there for Lana's delivery?

I had the same thought. He should have gone to Senator Kent first.

Couldn't Clark just carry her to Metropolis?

Or at least use his heat vision to cauterize whatever she was hemmoraghing from.

This was Lex, a Lex who didn't know the rift that had developed between his father and him. A Lex who also doesn't know about Clarks powers.

Wow, I guess I'm in the minority in not thinking this was a big bag of suck.
Cruising other forums, other people seem to have liked this episode.

(And the effect of Clark running down the wall was sweet)

Even so, why weren't Lana's other friends, like Chloe, Clark, Jonathan, and Martha, there for the delivery?

I enjoyed this episode. It looks like Clark never becomes Superman since Lex does not become evil.

What irritates me is that Lex sees his possible future and since he doesn't like one aspect of the outcome he simply turns his back on it entirely. What happened to the scheming that he used to be so good at? It would be more in character for him to follow the path that led to the future he saw but to make sure that even if his dad cuts him off that he still has plenty of wealth/influence on his own. At the very least hide away more than enough cash to save Lana and then follow the path to make that future happen. That way he can have that life but will have the cash to save Lana.

This episode also brought up another irritation about how they misuse special effects. In the aerial view of Clark super-speeding there were several times when he appeared to be moving at no more than about 50 mph, yet he still is blurred as if he was going several hundred mph. They seem to always do that. He's moving at freeway speeds but he's blurred like he's about to go to warp speed...
