Very cool that you can drive now. Always good to have a friend with a license!

I guess I'm just entering kindergarten with my almost 6 years of CPU time!

I just found an interesting site - lets you look at UD stats in lots of different ways for individuals and teams (you can sort by daily production, % of total contribution, etc). Team Tivo is doing great...keep those boxes humming.

Java version:
http://www.statsman.org/udstats/index.html

HTML version:
http://www.statsman.org/udstats/html/index.html

BTW - it looks like we may have a points leader change in the next week or so - JohnJr and JrJohnston are battling it out!

If you haven't joined - what are you waiting for?

Thanks to all the new members who have signed up - we're up to #21 in daily production in the last few days!!

Keep 'em coming - and thanks to everyone who is helping this worthwhile program and helping get the word out about Tivo in the process.

Bump 'o Bump Bump

P.S. - still soliciting a better Team slogan/comment that what I entered - those of you with literary talent, please help out.

I've been running UD for awhile... just switched to Team TiVo this morning.
I've got three machines crunching:
PIII-800 512MB Laptop
PIII-866 512MB Desktop
PIII-600 256MB Desktop

All three are set to use 2GB of storage I believe. Anyway, I know they're not cutting edge computing, but I've already done 1 year, 106 days of computing time, and joined back 6 mos ago or so.

But anyway, I'm contributing to the team now. Was just going solo before today. I didn't realize the Team TiVo existed til a few days ago.

* bump *

Just joined a couple of days ago. Athlon XP 1800+ which does a work unit in 4-5 hours. However, I don't leave it on when I'm not using it, but I do use it a lot.

Just to put to rest the "make a company rich in the process by using your machine to do research for them so they can sell it to the highest bidder" theory:

Quote:
In United Devices Public Good Projects, rights to the research results remain with non-profit or government organizations that are dedicated to disease-fighting research.

Second to last paragraph on this page.

Add another one to our group. Seemed a shame for a 1.8 P4 to be sitting around doing nothing most of the day. Now it can add some e-Karma to my account.

They are indeed neck and neck for Team TiVo leader.

But look down the list a little and you'll see StanSimmons who only started on 07/12/2002 and has racked up an astounding 650 days of CPU time in only 24 days! He'll be storming up that leader board in no time! Way to go Stan!

I may not be the first to say this, but I was on the Tivo UD team and left because of all the system problems that UD was having.

I am a full supporter of the cancer fighting concept that UD supports, but I don't think they have the ability to execute it properly. I have many systems that must be on 24/7 with plenty of spare CPU cycles, and I didin't want those to go to waste.

The company that wrote the original THINK software for UD is now on a much more mature version that is 14 times faster than the original engine that UD is still using (or at least was when I left).

They are operating on grants and running the project from http://www.find-a-drug.com

They have been beta testing for the last 4 months or so, and are now in full production.

There is no TIVO team set up yet there and only about 650 members total on the project so far. If we wanted to get in on the ground floor, AND make some huge headway toward cancer research I believe this is the way to go.

You don't need any UDMONITOR or anything like that. There is a built in queue that lets you download as many units as you want so you can crunch offline for weeks. It is very stable and also seems to be VERY good at grabbing spare cycles while you work (if you want to run more than just the screen saver) without causing any slowdown.

Check out the site. http://www.find-a-drug.com

THINK was replaced in the UD client with LigandFit around June. They also upgraded LigandFit in the beginning of July to reduce the size of the results being sent back, and thus their server load. I haven't noticed any problems with stability, connectivity, or it slowing down my machine in the week that I've used it, so I'm guessing it's been worked out. YMMV.

Find-a-Drug has a wider array of projects to work on, although most aren't launched yet. It doesn't say anything about where the research is going, but it's run not-for-profit, so you shouldn't need to be suspicious. UD is an order of magnitude larger in terms of members, productivity, etc. but of course has had a substantial lead time. Both seem like good causes, so do whatever you want.

I've been sitting at position #5 for a while. All of us at the top seem to be going up at the same rate. To fix this problem over the next few weeks all my AMD based systems are going to be up graded to at least 1.6 ghz machines. The Intel based servers will all be P4 2.x ghz by the end of October.

The American method. If your to slow add a bigger engine

We're up to #32 in total points standing now - lets keep crunching!

We had someone come in as a heavy hitter for a week or so - adding major points, then he left. I'm not sure who that was, but I hope he comes back

If you're not on the team, come join in - fight cancer and support Tivo at the same time - what could be better than that?

Thumbs up Thanks, all!

I just did the install. I had forgotten UD when I upgraded to XP. My poor little P866 has been idle since last November My little 100K points or so are now in the TiVo column.

As a cancer survivor myself, a personal THANKS to all who are donating their spare CPU time.

My points were not transfered to TeamTivo when I joined. Should they have been? I have accumulated a total of 92,457 points, but my TeamTivo ranking shows that I have only earned 15,061 points. BTW, my username is adammerk.

Nope, only the points after you join are credited to the team. You still keep them for individual stats, but for team stats only what is earned while ON the team counts.

Keep 'em coming though!

Well since dnet's RC5-64 is completed, I dediced to hop over and try this for a while. Let's see how fast I can move up in the stats!

Unfortunately my Solaris machines aren't supported. Any suggestions as to where I can donate my SPARC processor cycles?

And related to that question, where should I donate my iMac's processor cycles?
